DISCRIMINATION AGAINST WOMEN

Women are promoters of peace, yet their rights are not respected after becoming victims of violence. They are marginalized, rejected, and denied the freedom to express themselves. Women's needs are subordinated to community and national development. They have difficulty having their rights recognized after being assaulted—they are excluded from various areas and they can't have their voices heard and understood at trial. Women are tasked with heavy labour such as agriculture, children's education, and family responsibilities. While working in the fields, if a woman meets an unidentified armed group, she will be raped and her husband will abandon her. She will be rejected by society and her community. It takes a lot of time in family mediation for her to reintegrate. Tradition dictates that women have no recourse under customary law; they are expected to obey without question. How can women become emancipated when they are marginalized?

Women must understand themselves and reflect on their womanhood and dignity, decide they will no longer stand for these rights violations and denounce them as soon as possible. Men who rape three, five, or eleven year old girls rape their own daughters. Will the law continue treat such people with indifference? Raping a seventy-year-old woman is like raping your own mother. Will these sorts of perpetrators remain unpunished too? We must fight to eliminate discrimination against women.

Possible solutions:
-Eliminate all forms of discrimination against women.
-Protect and promote women's rights.
-Allow women to fully participate in national development, especially in the civil, political, economic, social, and cultural sectors, including the military and police.
-Allow women to make decisions for themselves.
-Eliminate sexual violence as a tool to destabilize and dislocate families.
-Use the previous solutions to bring all those responsible for such acts to justice.
-Create a stable, safe environment.
