Introducing myself and my journal: JIJUE (Know Yourself)

About Me:
I am 26 years Old. I am a lawyer by profession. And have been in practise for two years. The 1st born in a family of six, I have four brothers and one sister. I believe I am setting a great example for them to follow.

I am just setting up my roots, both in my personal and professional life. It is tough and challenging, being a woman, single and in a male dominated profession. It is a jungle out there!

I am involved in active litigation, in the areas of law that bring in the cash ( a lady has to eat, make her hair, buy that sharp suit that makes you stand out from the crowd, pay the bills!). But I am also passionate about women's issues, and more specificaly women's rights.

It is appalling, the extent of ignorance that is facing the women in my country, and not because they cannot learn, but because they have no idea where to get information from; what is available to and for them. We suffer for lack of knowledge. I hope through my efforts to spread some of the knowledge imparted to me to the masses. Create some awareness. Meet and make some great friends!!

Take this journey with me.

My Passions:
Giving hope and finding justice for the oppressed.

My Challenges:
Dealing with mindsets that are entranced in patriachical views

My Vision for the Future:
A time when I do not have to represent a battered, dejected woman in a divorce matter; a time when a child does not testify against a relative in a sexual molestation case; a time when women are empowered enough to stand up for themselves.

My Areas of Expertise:
Law - Women and Children Rights

Caroline... it is a joy to welcome you to the PulseWire community. Although you talk about being in a field of law that brings in cash, I have no doubt that you are helping reform laws and are changing lives for the better. As you imply, knowledge is power and the fact that you are in a position to help women learn of their rights is powerful indeed.

Take a moment to browse through our group directory (http://www.worldpulse.com/pulsewire/groups) where you may find a group with similar interests to your own. You might be interested in joining the African Female Lawyers group moderated by our wonderful Fatima. You can find it at:

Again, welcome and I look forward to reading more from you. Best wishes,
Janice
