committee to work on ending violence

Dear sisters,

Yesterday, I started to compile a list of women to invite to join us with ideas of how to stop violence toward women in India. Several of us thought a "central" email mailing list would make communicating faster and easier. I will continue to refine this list within the next few days. Does anyone have women to suggest we invite? I have email addresses for: Jackie Patino, Upasana C, Mukat Ray, Olutosin, Rita Banerji, Sapna S., so please send your email address to the India Cafe on World Pulse and I will gather them and include you on the list.
I read the news about the conviction of the 4 men who raped/killed the young women in New Dehli. Hopefully, their conviction will send a strong message about abusing women.
here is a recent photo of myself and our wonderful granddaughter Anya, whose father is from Kerala.

Thanks William! Any

Thanks William! Any particular reason that you have invited only women? I believe this is a social issue and the more we involve men in the solutions lesser the problems and quicker the results.
Best regards

forming group

Hi Shilpa,

I am open to anyone joining this group. In the past 6-8 weeks I have sent email messages to the men in India Cafe, a number of men's organizations in India who claim to serve women and a male Christian friend in Tamil Nadu. To date I have not received any response. I agree that this is a "men's issue" and men should be involved. Either we know some men who will engage now or we go ahead and try to engage them after we have some plans. What are your ideas? Thank you,

Dear William

What a wonderful thing you are doing. I would like to congratulate you and wish you every success with all your endeavours to protect our women and children and to give them a better future.

I would like to be on the mailing list: I work in Cape Town, South Africa, dubbed ‘the rape capital of the world’.

We women are going to take the rape bull by its horns ourselves to protect us and our children. We are starting a self-protection training scheme which will teach thousands of women and children how to protect themselves. Our training starts in Cape Town in early 2014. I shall let everyone know how it goes.

Let me know what, if anything, we can do together. Meantime you might also like to look at what my little granddaughter says about being attacked here:

And this is an example of the training which we are going to be doing. We will be reaching thousands of women and school girls in the next few years:

Good luck and strength to you and all those women and children whom you are protecting with your good efforts.

I wish you 'Nangamso', that is: May you continue to do the good work which you do so well.
(A blessing from my ancestors, the Khoikhoi, the first people of South Africa).

Hi Monica

Dear Monica, I've added your email to the list. Do you know of any women or men who we should invite to this committee, people who would actively support this issue? Good luck in your new training. Keep us posted here at India CAfe or in the email forum.

I think it is wonderful to have that list, so we can have more interaction. We have to begin. Let us roll!

Hi Jackie, good to hear from you. I am feeling better now. I don't seem to find your email address. Were you going to contact K-lee Starland to see if she could help us?

Hi Sutanuka, I've added your name to the email list. I am hopeful that within (like) a week we will have the start to a list and can begin sharing our ideas via email. Thanks for joining. With many voices we will make a loud noise.
