INDIA CONFRONTS RAPE AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE LIKE NEVER BEFORE!!!!! DEATH SENTENCE TO THE FOUR RAPISTS IN THE DELHI CASE.

The moment I have been waiting for is here. Justice for Delhi paramedical girl , who the nation named "Nirbhaya "has come through today in a Delhi court. Nine month's wait has been worth it!!

Four of the six rapists have been given death sentence for the first time in the history of justice for a woman raped and assaulted. One committed suicide in his cell. One is in a correctional home (juvenile).

The hope in justice has been rekindled today in the hearts of India's girls and women who know that every 20 minutes a girl is raped here.

One soul rests in peace today.India's daughter, Nirbhaya, who was raped by 6 men in a moving bus, had an iron rod inserted inside her that made her intestines burst and turn gangrene leading her to die in a hospital must feel a sense of justice today.

For the first time India confronts rape and sexual assault against its women.

I can now light a 'diya' .

(an earthen lamp we light in the memory of our loved ones who are dead).

So many of my family and friends have suffered these things, in my lifetime, in the Untied States of America. My feelings about these issues are more mighty than I can ever express in words.
Be brave and attempt to stay safe, if both are possible.

America too

Dear Yvette,

Today a friend shared with me a study based on America where there was a comparison done on the frequency of crimes against women along with the punishment term in the state. It indicated that higher and more stern laws did not ensure crimes dropped down.

My friend suggested that the death sentence given to the rapists in the Delhi case will be futile! Do you also believe in this? In your country is this how it is??

Personally, I believe a strict law against rapists will act as a huge deterring factor for abusers and violators in my country besides other long term measures.

If you are on FB please connect with me there.

Much love

It takes just one to change many

Dear Urmila,
I am on facebook, but I couldn't find you there. Please send me a friend request.

I would like to see the on crimes against women study that your friend shared with you.

The death penalty is handed down as a sentence in the U.S., but seldom carried out. A big issue with punishing crime is that too many parents and other family members continue to protect and advocate for their offspring who have shown that they are simply animals posing as humans. We must put pressure on all humans to see the victims through their own eyes and spirits, as did the people marching to encourage the most stringent penalties for the Delhi rapist.

The death sentence given to the rapist in Delhi does not have to be futile, but those who worked so hard to obtain it must follow through with pressure until the sentences are carried out. This horrible case has opened the door worldwide for continuing discussion of what is just in such a case. I believe that rape, especially of a child or when the rape results in pregnancy or HIV, should be punishable by castration and solitary confinement with the tools for killing oneself made available to the prisoner.

I am always confused by our reluctance to put to death hardened criminals in our own country, but our eagerness to go to war in other countries. We even pay guards to keep prisoners on suicide watch to keep them from killing themselves.

There is a passage in the Christian New Testament that says, "Whoever will cause one of these little ones who believe in me to stumble, it would be better for him if he was thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around his neck." The trusting and vulnerable are all as children. We should help those who are filled with anger and hatred toward innocence and vulnerability, and those who take advantage of their superior power over the vulnerable to harm them, to kill themselves, as did Hitler. As we wait for them to do this, we should keep them confined by themselves so that they can hurt nobody else, nor spread their hatred to others.

The justice system should not be about punishment; it should be about protecting our civil societies while we enable the prisoners to make restitution for their own wrongs. Sometimes the only just restitution is the taking of one's own life.

How sweet of you to care. I

How sweet of you to care. I took my picture down to put up a more current one. BUT, then my computer lost all the pictures I have on file. So, now I have to start over and will soon. Thanks for noticing.

My work in ZAMBIA in general is good and I am making great progress especially with one kid I sponsor and have him in his second year at University of Zambia. This street orphan believe it or not has the capability to be ANYTHING. I am actually thinking of bringing him to America for his Master's Degree because he has the skill set needed to survive in life in general.

But I have a terrible, horrifying, torturous, theft that went on when I was there the last few times and we are trying to catch the street orphan thief. BUT, despite my detailed information, the police is doing little or nothing. He escaped from Zambia to Namibia and has started an internet business with money he stole from me to buy computers, printers, etc. Except he was found with a 9 year old girl, was jailed 5 days and had to sell the computers to the father. Then his uncle is hiding the computers. HIs aunt whose life I saved literally from diabetis, his uncle and others were involved. I did so much for him as I do for all my street orphans because I have a different vision of what needs to be done (solar lamps is just a small example). My student in University of Zambia has taken a trip to Livingstone Zambia to help because the police will do nothing. This is the short, incomplete version of a story that one could never make up. It is so complicated . Anyway, it is painful to me beyond belief but I am dealing with it like a winner . . . but even sometimes winners are depressed and discouraged.

Miss you too Urmila. DOn't know if you gave me your personal email or not but I will look so we can keep better in touch that way as I have things to ask you about your life as well. I so admire you.

Love and thank you for thinking of me personally. You made my day. Really you did.

Verdict

I had responded to Mukut's piece on this same topic. What was most compelling for me were the words of the judge:

Judge Yogesh Khanna said they should be hanged for having "shocked the collective conscience" of India.

"In these times when crime against women is on the rise, courts cannot turn a blind eye toward such gruesome crime," Judge Khanna said. "There cannot be any tolerance."

"There's a willingness, an openness for greater engagement with what lies at the roots of this violence," said Kavita Krishnan, a leader of the All India Progressive Women's Association.

All encouraging news and even more so is the fact that victims appear to be more willing to come forward. Delhi police registered 1,036 complaints of rape through Aug. 15 this year, more than twice the number in the same period in 2012. Molestation complaints were up nearly six times, to 2,267. Women are courageously refusing to stay silent, a powerful first step to standing up against these violent acts.

You are one of those courageous voices and we are so appreciative that you continue to speak out for those who are without voice. Much love,
Janice

Dear Janice,

Sister, one of the rapist was seen crying when the verdict was read aloud. It shows they have feelings and emotions for themselves but not for women and certainly not for the girl they left to die!

The juvenile rapist who has gone to a correctional home for 3 years (should have been punished longer!) has a mother who is ashamed of her son and told media that she wished they hung him too!

This is what is happening here. Thank you for your thoughts.

Much love and prayers

Oh Urmila,

Forgot to give you my email address which is headingforgreatness1@gmail.com.

Regarding my coming to Chennai where I will be giving a speech to women on self-esteem. Perhaps instead of your coming to Chennai I can see if I can extend my visit in India and come to your town to spend a couple days with you and see in person what you are doing, etc.

Love,

Wendy

I will email you soon .
