L'ENVIRONNEMENT

L’environnement étant tout ceux qui entour l’homme ; D’une manier générale, les questions de l’environnementales et écologique touchent notre communauté car, on est confronté aux problèmes de salubrité, d’érosion mais aussi de lapolution atmosphérique source des plusieurs maladies ;
-l’insalubrité est dû au manque de poubelles et de latrines publiques et même la carence en eau potable ;
-suite à la déforestation et aux effets d’exploitation minière ; le climat est devenu dynamique on ne sait plus distinguer la saison sèche et la saison de pluie ; normalement dans notre région la saison sèche comprenait seulement le mois de juin et juillet et août ; mais suite aux effets de la déforestation, nous assistons à la sécheresse même aux mois de fevrier, mars et une moitié du mois de mai ;
-Entretenir les espaces verts par le reboisement et surtout réguler strictement l’exploitation des bois ;
-construire en respectant les normes urbanistiques tout en démolissant les maisons construites anarchiquement qui sont souvent à la base des érosions et des éboulements ;
-construire des latrines publiques ;

English translation by community member Nancy Janus

The environment is everything that surrounds us; in a general way, environmental and ecological issues touch our community because we encounter problems of health, and erosion, and also air pollution that is the source of many illnesses.

Unhealthy conditions are due to insufficient numbers of waste cans, and public toilets and even a deficiency in drinkable water.

As far as erosion is concerned, it is caused by unlawful construction. Here, the rural exodus, is the problem in most cases since war has overrun villages and the population is becoming displaced from villages to the city where everybody wants to have housing no matter the price, even on unbuildable lots; where erosion will not quit creating victims, both day and night.

The air that we breathe is also polluted by industrial factories that emit smoke and also by the multiplication of cars and other kinds of vehicles which play a significant role in pollution.

Of course the effects of exploitative mining are also felt; these effects follow the installation of a plant to extract gold and other ores called “BANRO,” that is spreading with several subsidiaries through South Kivu.

Deforestation is caused by the clearing of the forest, for wood to make drugs, boards, for heating and for the manufacture of Bresse.

As a result of deforestation and the effects of mining, the climate has become unpredictable. One can no longer distinguish the dry season from the rainy season; normally in our area the dry season only occurs in the months of June, July and August, but thanks to deforestation we experience a drought even during the months of February, March, April and half of May.

Our relationship with the environment in every day life has not to be proven because, there is no life without environment. That is why it must be maintained above all by planting trees, because trees purify the air that we breathe.
Traditional and technological knowledge that we have of ecology suggest the need for:
green spaces,
water, as in
factories and automobiles that pollute less.

Here are several solutions that we propose:
Maintain green spaces for reforestation and above all strictly regulate the use of wood.

Build only according to urban codes, while demolishing houses that are unlawfully constructed and are often the cause of erosion and landslides;

Build public toilets;Construct pipes or other sources of potable water, provide public lighting, and playgrounds, and also build public utility buildings.

Make available sites to hold public trashcans as well as a means to carry away the trash.

Bonjour Neema,

Nancy Janus
