Solutions for the environment

The Congo is currently facing the issue of the environment, and our vision at OSODI comes from the time between 1965-1996 when Mobutu reigned over Zaire and the Congolese environment was fresh and fertile. From our fields to our mountains and pastures, peace reigned throughout the Congolese land, but since 1996, eastern Congo has been pillaged on national, local and international levels. Our fields have become mines which are exploited by rebels, and the mining industry is exploiting the place where our parents once sowed their seeds. Our livestock no longer have places to pasture as the agricultural sector has become non-existent due to the displacement of the population caused by incessant wars in the east (Goma and South Kivu), which has impacted on the Congolese environment. We are facing the many consequences of environmental problems on the future of our population.

The Congolese people are “demanding” a return to the peaceful environment of the Zaire era, so that sustainable development can be achieved, like in so many other countries in the world.

The DRC is suffering – its environment is rich in resources, but there is insecurity because of exploitation which has become normalised. Peace talks such as those in Kampala, national dialogue, Amani Leo, are responding to attacks on the vision of a peaceful environment.

At OSODI Congo, we are reclaiming peace so that we can have a hand in shaping the future of our own environment like in the days of Zaire.

The crisis we are living through is destroying everything.

OSODI, for a peaceful environment.
