EXITING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Scenario 1: A woman’s parents came to visit her and her husband. They spent a nice evening and the conversation is enjoyable. Any parents would be so proud to have such a great son in-law! He is so nice with their daughter.
Scenario 2: A man is enraged once more and he will discharge his anger his own way. He will hit his wide in the face, kick her, pull her hair or hit her head many times against the wall.
You might be surprised to find out that these two scenarios are about the same couple. Like many violent partner, this man knows how to be charming in public or when his in-laws are around. But when he is alone with his wife, he is extremely cruel. Many men like this one have grown up in a violent household. Once adult, they think that their behavior is acceptable and normal even. But domestic violence is everything but normal. Nonetheless it is a very spread out phenomenon. Here in the Congo for example, violence has spread everywhere in the country. This is a global epidemic that touches each cultural, economic and social group. And because a lot of aggressions are not being reported, statistics are probably far from reflecting real figures.
Domestic violence raises questions: how can men treat their wives in such appalling way? Can men who beat their wives get some help? I am convinced that the practical advices from the Bible can help couples to change their behaviors. Is such a change easy? No. is it possible? Yes! Our center Mama Shujaa helps a lot of violent persons to become soft and respectful and also the biblical teachings. Read Colossians 3:8-10.
