Embracing PulseWire Community

I am someone who always enjoys pursuing various passions and interests- thus I have two jobs in different areas. I have worked with second language learners throughout my teaching career, both with children and adults. I am passionate about supporting others in finding their voice- both in spoken and written form. From this experience as well as extensive travel, my eyes have been opened to the many and varied voices, cultures, and challenges in our world. It's been a privilege to meet people all over the world gleaning from their personal narratives and experiences. I presently teach adults at a college in the Portland area as well as run my own business called Red Aphrodite- a stationary business with fun, whimsical, designs. In starting this business, I have faced challenges and done things I never thought I could. I believe in creating businesses that use our resources wisely and thus produce the greeting cards locally using 100 percent post consumer papers. I am learning as a collage/mixed media artist everyday. I love being a co-creator in our world fashioning language, art, connections, and womens' empowerment for a more complete and beautiful planet.

Hi

I love that you started your own business with local community in mind! How did you pick the name 'Red Aphrodite"? Looking forward to reading more about you!

Hi Maria

Maria,
I am here at the Pulsewire office with sun streaming in and everyone working on different projects! I'm volunteering here to help out and be a part of this vibrant community. The name for my business rose from my core. I created a collage that I called Red Aphrodite, when it came time to find a business name, I brainstormed, talked to friends, researched. It was crazy! It took me 6 months to find this name- the thing is it was there all along! On this collage piece it says, "She has always known genius." That wasn't planned or something I copied- it came out of my right brain- that place of creation. Now this name guides me and reminds me that she- women, bold, innovative, beautiful women are our genius.

Thanks for asking! Will you tell me more about yourself?

Warm wishes,

Laura

Thank you so much for my friend’s acceptance and blog. Yes, I believe so. I checked that blog that was so helpful and is doing some practices also. I do think that starting a new group on pulse wire for second language leaner members will be a great support, so that we can share tips, give feedback, share books, websites, etc. as you mentioned in friend request. I think lack of grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure are my weakness. Thank you so much for your help. I look forward to hear from you.
