Violence against Women

Many people, communities, and humanitarian or political organizations have devoted themselves to denouncing the existing abuses or the more severe ones that happen uniquely because the victim belongs to a certain gender.

Generally it is the women who are the victims of things that are presented as a collective cultural tendency which allow and incite the recurrent assaults.

The fight against violence towards women and domestic violence which defines the term “violence against women” should be understood as a violation of human rights and a form of discrimination towards women, and refers to all the justifiable gender-involved violence, or are likely to cause women to feel shame or to suffer physically, sexually, psychologically or economically, including the threat to commit such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of freedom, taking place in the public and private sphere.

An honor killing is a murder committed against a person whose behavior is considered to have brought dishonor to his or her family. Most of the victims are women. These crimes are typically done by the family members of the victim or the members of the community and, contrary to the so-called “passion” crimes, are premeditated. In societies where the honor killings are committed, one considers them as part of the private domain and justice rarely chases after the murderers.

The widespread rape of women in war situations are also linked thought processes and also racist ways of being, which are generally used to normalize the supply of women as armed prostitutes.

Domestic violence is violence between couples. It is an evolutionary process during which one partner exercises, as part of a special relationship, a control which is expressed by physical, psychological, sexual, economic or spiritual abuses. It corresponds to a continuous or repeated and always threatening violence, reflecting a societal configuration in which the possibilities of resistance are low and the chance of getting out is slim.

Violence within the family: Abuses towards intimate partners, sexual violence against women and girls in the household, dowry-related violence, marital rape, female genital mutilation, abuse suffered by domestic workers, inequality between girls and boys (illegal confinement, physical abuse, slavery-like conditions and sexual violence).

Violence in the social environment: Rape, sexual violence, aggression and sexual harassment in the workplace, in educational and other institutions, slave trade of women, forced prostitution and forced labor and other abuses by armed groups.

Violence perpetrated by the state: Abuses committed or tolerated by police, prison guards, soldiers, border guards, immigration officials and other rape by government forces during armed conflicts, torture during detention, and violence committed by officials to the refugees.

The fight against the violence against women, we call every citizen to take personal action, every one can influence governments to pursue their fight against violence.
