French Speaking Welcome Committee Volunteer
Volunteer Position Description
Join a global movement of women who are harnessing the power of digital media to broadcast solutions-oriented news from the front lines of some of the most unheard regions in the world. World Pulse is seeking French-speaking welcome committee volunteers to support the rising voices and leadership of grassroots women leaders in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and other French-speaking African countries.
In 2012 World Pulse Correspondent Neema Namadamu began leading digital media literacy trainings with grassroots women leaders in Bukavu, DRC to facilitate the participation of hundreds of Congolese women in our Digital Action Campaign to end violence against women, which had a regional focus on the Democratic Republic of Congo. Collectively, these women call themselves the Maman Shujaa (“Hero Women” in Swahili). Today, more and more Maman Shujaa are joining our community, and they continue to share their stories, their visions for change, and to connect with a global network of support on World Pulse.
As a French Speaking Welcome Committee Volunteer, your role will be to welcome new French-speaking community members by visiting their journal on our website when they join and providing a thoughtful welcome message to them in French. On average, 7 women and men from the Democratic Republic of the Congo join our community every day.
The ideal candidate has a global soul, excellent intercultural communication skills, and a passion for World Pulse's unique editorial voice and mission. Additionally, candidates should be excited by web 2.0 media, communications, solutions-oriented news, women's studies, grassroots activism, and citizen journalism.
