What's Best for Baby
It's crazy. I live in the U.S. It's the year 2007. It is perfectly acceptable for me to be having my first child at the age of 38. But the more I read, the more I realize that it will not always be acceptable for me to breastfeed comfortably in public. In Vermont, a woman was recently forced off an airplane before it took off for breastfeeding her 22-month old daughter. Ah, the irony that we are fighting for freedom. "Despite all the rhetoric about being family-friendly, we have structured a society that is decidedly unfriendly... What's missing now is a movement. What's missing now is an organization. That's why MomsRising is so important." -- Senator Barack Obama, 9/28/06
This morning Cynthia Casas, our Director of Global Partnerships, forwarded me an email from MomsRising.org. MomsRising.org has created a petition in support of the Breastfeeding Promotion Act. Of course I signed it, but I am still in disbelief that we have to convince our Congressmen that breastfeeding is best for baby.
Luckily though, World Pulse is committed to creating a family friendly atmosphere for its employees. I am our first pregnant team member, so I'll be breaking new ground. Right now my plan is to bring my baby to work as often as possible. We'll see how it goes. Wish me luck!
