Introducing myself and my journal: Stardust and Discourse

About Me:
I come from a large, noisy, and very close-knit family. I love to play video games, read, watch science-fiction, draw, and getting creative. I think volunteering is really important if people have the time for it. I tutor ESL and volunteer on my local sexual assault crisis line.

I run the Education Program for a local AIDS Service Organization. I help design curricula, train volunteers, teach about HIV, STI's and sexual health, and also train facilitators to be able to do the same. Our work is oriented toward preventing the spread of HIV and other STI's, and supporting those who are already living with HIV.

My academic work is centered around gendered and religious violence in conflict zones.

My Passions:
Feminism, Discourse, Reading, Art, Social Justice

My Challenges:
Finding all the right words

My Vision for the Future:
A world of freedom

My Areas of Expertise:
Sexual Violence, HIV/AIDS, Sexual Health, Gender

Welcome, Jessi!

Dear Jessi,

Welcome to World Pulse! It's great to have you here!

I enjoyed reading your profile and think it's really wonderful that you are doing the work that you're doing in the area of education around HIV. How great that you also find time to volunteer as a tutor and on your local sexual assault crisis line.

I can relate to your challenge of "finding all the right words" on a couple of levels. I often struggle with matching my words with the depth and color of my feelings and opinions. Words so often seem to fail me, elude me. As I get older, I'm finding that to be occasionally even more the case! :)

It's easy to often be inspired reading what women write here on World Pulse. When the writing comes right from the heart, it sings with truth and power. It's like poetry--raw, authentic, inspiring. Please continue to contribute to your journal and share with your World Pulse sisters what's going on with you! Tell us your story, and feel free to reach out to others who share your passions, interests and goals. To get started, here's a helpful link:

I hope you enjoy being a part of the World Pulse community and draw strength and inspiration from being a member!

With love,

"I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in darkness the astonishing light of your own being."
