How to Increasing Milk Production During Breastfeeding

The decrease in milk production during breastfeeding is not out of the ordinary and is generally temporary.

A decrease in milk production while breastfeeding is often linked to:

• Maternal fatigue
• Anxiety (perhaps caused by a hospitalized baby, or return to home from the hospital)
• Feedings that are too infrequent
• Improper suction.
• A baby’s higher nutritional needs linked to phases of growth found at 10 days, 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months of age.

To remedy this, it is recommended to put the following in place for the mother:

• Rest from more frequent naps.
• Increased water intake.
• Place the baby in such a way that its head effectively stimulates milk production.
• Put on breastfeeding cups, as the pressure will stimulate milk production.
• Pull out the milk with a breast pump if the baby cannot suckle. For instance, for a premature baby, or a lethargic baby.
• Preferably consume the following foods: raw carrots, fennel, lentils, artichokes, and star anise, as they promote the production of milk during lactation.
• Avoid the following foods: parsley, sorrel, sage tea, green cabbage, as they decrease milk production.
• And finally, why not further your lactation with homeopathy.
