FELICITATIONS

Jeannette.

Hello friends!!!!!

National and international women's networks have been fighting for a long time to promote women. Even the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of the Congo underscores this in its article 14, referring to parity ["parité" meaning equal, or at least fixed and pre-established numbers of women and men in government], though it has never been enforced. We criticized the fact that in the presidential elections, there was no woman, and, in the legislative elections only 8 percent, according to the results obtained––not even 30 percent. This time, in our province of SUD KIVU, our governor Marcellin Chishambo, after much advocacy efforts, understood that it was necessary to include women. So it is that after some reshuffling, 6 out of 14 organizers in the province are women: 4 in the ministries and 2 in the executive secretary's office. The Minister of Justice, Human Rights, Public Affairs and Relations with Civil Society is Madame Balegamire Gisèle NABOZI, who is among the Mamans Shujaa! The Minister of the Economy, Commerce and Industry is Madame Adolphine IDUM BO. The Minister of Achilia, the EPSP, Sports and Leisure, Culture, Arts and Information is Mme Bernadette MASOKA Safi. The Minister of Agriculture, Land Affairs, Rural Development and the Environment is Adoliphine MULEY BYAYUWA, an advocate for aboriginal people. Finally, AGNES SADIKI, director of the directing committee CAUCUS DES FEMMES POUR LA PAIX in SUD KIVU (Caucus of Women for Peace in Sud-Kivu), which led more advocates with its partners Kivina TIl Kivina, Alert International, PAGE, etc., to reach today's results, along with Esperance HENDWA, former mayor of the commune of Ibanda, are Executive Secretaries.

We congratulate all those who, from near or far, were involved in this process leading up to today. Let's continue to support these women, according to the means available to each of us, so that they can fulfill their functions well––for the task is truly difficult, and the upcoming challenges are numerous. We wish the same for ELODIE NTAMIZINDA, President of the Civil Society of Sud Kivu, who has just won the trust of the National Assembly in order to be part of National Electoral Commission team. Congratulations to all, and may God bless you. May the fight continue until we have 50-50 in all decision-making roles. Jeannette.

Great news!

This is great news Jeanette! Even if the percentage of women in office is still low, we are on our way to 50%. I'm thrilled to see that one of the courageous Maman Shujaa has been appointed. I am very excited about the possibilities this represents.

Thank you for sharing the news!

Merci
