Silent Words

Just think of this for a moment. Pretend you are a girl of 12 years old. You have a brother who all your life has molested you, twin sister who has a mental disorder, very suicidal and anorexic, a mother who does not listen to you, a stepfather who beats you up and bangs your head on the walls until you are unconscious and a father who has been plotting a way to kill your family. Now, take all of that in and dwell on that thought for a second....Now, think about this again, you are all alone, no one believes a word you say, they think you are psychotic and unruly child. They take you to a psychiatrists and they still do not understand the pain you going through. Your own mother checks you into a psychotic unit every time you try tell her what is going on. No one gets it. You can't say anything and do anything so the best way to let out what you feel is acting in a rebellious way that will make someone give you just a little bit of attention but even then it is not enough.
Now you are 21 years old, graduated college all on your own without your family's help, you still carry all of those burdens around. How do you begin to express yourself? How do you move on from all of this?

This is a story about my friend who I just recently got to know who let me into her world and opened up about this. All of this time, no one was there to listen her, to share the same experiences with her, to help her find the correct path. So I thought I should write about this issue of how abuse--whether be physical, emotional, sexual and etc...--how many women out there do you know that you have noticed some signs of abuse but too scared to say something about it? What have you do to help them?
I want to encourage everyone to be apart of stopping the silence of women being molested, and all the horrible things that are acted upon them. If you see anyone or see signs please do not let it continue, it takes one person to start a great positive reinforcement on actually assisting women talk about what happens to them so that we may help them.

Break the silence

We must break the silence about abuse and get people on the path to healthy, full lives. It is heartbreaking to think how many lives are in these isolated situations. It is powerful that she opened up to you...sometimes just having someone to listen is all we really need.

I hope that the two of you continue to connect and that you can help her step fully into herself. Also, I hope you are equipped with the self-care skills to take care of yourself when dealing with these heavy, emotional topics.

My best to you...

This is true

I have been through almost the same thing she has been through so, I do know how to relate, I just struggle with finding the rights words to say to her about overcoming her struggles because we are two different people. I am determined for a better future whereas she is not. I thank you for giving me advice on this. I am certain that I will get through to her, it will take time.
