Introducing myself and my journal: Tetris

About Me:
I'm a grad student in Health Promotion at Portland State University, and a research assistant for the Institute on Aging. I came to this program with a background in journalism, education, sociolinguistics, and most recently, nutrition and teaching yoga. Originally, my sights were set on working with young women, but as I've learned from my job at the IOA, a multi-generational, life-course perspective is the way to go! My goal now is still to focus on women's empowerment, but with a more integrative, multi-faceted, multi-disciplinary approach.

My Passions:
family, travel, languages, meeting new people, dancing, yoga, cooking, sharing gratitude and trying to be a more compassionate person

My Challenges:
I want to do EVERYTHING and I can never focus on one thing at a time!

My Vision for the Future:
To empower women (and all people!) around the world to do what they love and believe in, and to live the healthiest, most fulfilling lives they can dream of!

My Areas of Expertise:
Expertise? Ha...well, I've somehow managed to learn Spanish pretty well. Other than that, I'd say I'm an expert in making mistakes, and fairly resilient at recovering from them. Eventually, anyway. :)

Dear Jeannette, Hello and

Dear Jeannette,

Hello and welcome to PulseWire from another Portlander! Your interests and values sound so similar to mine :-) I would love to chat.

If you haven't already, I encourage you to look around and learn more about the events and resources being shared by our encouraging network and strengthen it further by contributing your valuable perspective with us.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello Jeannette,
I am happy to welcome you to the World Pulse community! You have joined an amazing digital network whose goal is to enable women from all over the world to communicate and collaborate to find solutions to the most challenging and pressing issues facing women today. By nurturing and empowering women at the grass roots level, we can help effect change in individual lives and in communities in every corner of the globe.

Your profile exudes energy and I love your commitment to making the world a better place! Your thirst for education and life in general is very evident and we welcome your thoughts and ideas in the WP community.

On the WP site, you can read about many thought provoking issues and discover various ways you can take action should you want to. To learn more about how to get started in the WP community, please read The Getting Started Guide:

We love to read about other women's passions, hopes for the future, experiences and life situations so please feel free to share yours with us by writing a journal entry, which you can access under the My Pulse tab.

I've found WP to be a vibrant, supportive community with an empowering message so I encourage you to explore the site and interact with the community. Through online platforms such as WP, women the world over can unite and become a powerful force for change!

Again, welcome and I look forward to hearing your voice in the community!

Welcome, Jeanette!

Dear Jeanette,

Thank you so much for adding your voice to the World Pulse community of women from around the world. I appreciate so much the thoughtfulness and insight that went into writing your introduction--you are an open-minded person who is passionate about life and learning and loving well. I respect so much your passion for sharing gratitude and commitment to being a more compassionate person. For me, there is no higher calling.

How wonderful that you seek the empowerment of women from all ages of the life-spectrum. The aged in our society need more vocal and political allies to advocate for them--they are all-too-often side-lined and invisible in our culture, not given the respect and equal voice they deserve, so we thank you for advocating for all of us, no matter our age!

In addition to Debbie's recommendation to view the "Getting Started" guide, I want to encourage you to contribute to the World Pulse digital action campaign currently underway entitled "Girls Transform the World:

Also you may be interested in writing on the topic of Maternal Health for the chance to be published in World Pulse's e-magazine.

Thank you so much for joining the World Pulse network of women. I hope to hear more from you in the days to come!

"I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in darkness the astonishing light of your own being."
