Instrument of Change and Peace
The Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi best summarises what my vision in life :
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Being a Voices of Our Future Correspondent will help me achieve this by providing a global platform through a now global tool Web 2.0. I will be part of a strong network and community of women.
In the words of Hillary Clinton “It takes a village to raise a child.” For me I see World Pulse is like a village and Pulse Wire is our communal gathering point, source of collective wisdom and knowledge . We not only commune to receive but also to give, to guide , to console, to make known , to share learning from each other and most of all to celebrate our diversity and successes.
To be part of the VOF 2013 will enable me combine two of my passions Women empowerment and advancement and technology. I will draw upon lessons in my own life and those women around me and those who have come into my life and touched me in one way or another and influenced my life and decisions. The diversity of my experiences and networks will serve as reference point .
The mentorship and training I will receive from the VOF program will enable me impact more young girls and women in my community. Currently work with the constituency of women and young girls considered outliers in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics who need to know what other women have achieved in STEM so far and celebrate and emulate their successes.
That young girl in a rural part of Africa who is fascinated by the difference in the effects using a bar soap and powered soap in removing stain, doesn't love washing because she is a woman and it is her duty to clean, but is a Chemist who understands the efficacy of detergent over bar soap. The girl who is always looking after the house cat and making sure its fed and removes the thorn from its paw when its hurt isn't being motherly and nurturing , she is showing an aptitude for being a Vet. Its all about exposure and perception and VOF will enable me be a better agent of change.
