"Rise and Rise Again Until Lambs Become Lions

I had friend who went through school unable to read or write, her name was GILLIAN. She told me her story years ago and said she went through high school and they passed her with out being able to read or write. When she was around 45 or older she went to project literacy and learned to read and write, she was very determined. About 4 years ago Gillian passed away and I was invited to her memorial service. She had arranged for there to be a party for her friends, the place was filled with balloons and catered food and gifts for everyone. THE GIFTS CONSISTED OF ONE OF GILLIANS BOOKS.. She had written several..She never gave up and wrote a poem and story to be read to us as if she were there. She went from not being able to read to being a published author.

For me this was very inspiring and the fact I had known her since 1986 and learned so much from her. She had many other talents and a great sense of humor. At times I see and meet many people who are afraid to try or make a change, and Gillians story is one that so many can benefit from.

Many people come from a disadvantaged place and I believe like Gillian that there are possibilities that can lead them to their own personal dream
.

A Beautiful Tribute to Gillian!

Diane ,

You're absolutely right - Gillian's story of perseverance and accomplishment is inspiring!

If you'd be open to sharing, I wanted to know a bit more about Gillian's story:
- Where did she go to school? Which country?
- How did you meet her?
- What inspired GIllian to learn to read in her 40s?

Looking forward to reading more of your posts!

Best,
Erin

Gillians Story

I MET GILLIAN around 1986 in VICTORIA BC CANADA. I WAS a single mom and going to university. Gillian was my neighbor for many years at that address. She told me about her experience of being passed through the school system without being able to read or write. this took place in Canada. Gillian was gifted at arts and crafts and made her mind up she was going to learn to read and write. by her 50s she was a published author.

Gillian died of cancer 5 years ago

my email is ddenlighten@hotmail.com.

Thank you for sharing!

Sometimes I get so bogged down by the little things on a day to day basis, and that leads to me feeling discouraged about my impact on a larger scale. It's so simple, set a goal, and DO IT! This story was humbling and inspiring. Thank you for sharing. Gillian sounds like an amazing woman!

Thank you for passing on Gillian's inspirational story. Gillian did not allow a set of circumstances to deter her from changing her life's trajectory. She did not settle, but took on a great challenge and persevered. By sharing her story, you honor her life and accomplishments while giving hope to others. Thank you :)

What is the name of Gillian's book?

All the best,

Lena
