Introducing myself and my journal: Starting over at age 50

About Me:
I am currently full time student working towards a nursing degree. I am going to be 50 this year and in the midst of a divorce after 18 years of marriage. I have two children, daughter 16 and son 14. I am happier and healthier than I have been in 18 years. No coincidence.

I am excited to read the stories you all have to share. I am hear to listen.

My Passions:
cats, reading, food

My Challenges:
working out, being nice to myself

My Vision for the Future:
empowering those without a voice, being heard

My Areas of Expertise:
attributes are empathy and compassion, great at typing.

Wecome to World Pulse!

Hi Lisa,

I am happy to welcome you to the World Pulse community! You have joined an amazing digital network whose goal is to enable women from all over the world to communicate and collaborate to find solutions to the most challenging and pressing issues facing women today. By nurturing and empowering women at the grass roots level, we can help effect change in individual lives and in communities in every corner of the globe.

To leave a marriage after 18 years, especially when there are kids involved, and start over at the age of 50 takes a lot of courage and I salute you for what you're doing and for knowing you deserve to be happy and doing what it takes to make that happen! I wish you best of luck with everything.

You and I have a couple of things in common: our age (I turned 50 in February of this year) and the 'starting over' theme. After about 25 years of shift work as a respiratory therapist, I recently decided to retire from the only profession I've ever known, move back to the (very small) town where I was born and raised and start an online business, so I'm in the midst of trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up! :)

On the WP site, you can read about many thought provoking issues and discover various ways you can take action should you want to. To learn more about how to get started in the WP community, please read The Getting Started Guide:

You are also encouraged to participate in our "Girls Transform the World" digital action campaign which runs until May 10. For more information, please go to this link and click on Submit Your Story! You'll then be taken to a page with the Submission Guidelines and all the relevant information.

We love to read about other women's passions, hopes for the future, experiences and life situations so please feel free to share yours with us by writing a journal entry, which you can access under the My Pulse tab.

I've found WP to be a vibrant, supportive community with an empowering message so I encourage you to explore the site and interact with the community. Through online platforms such as WP, women the world over can unite and become a powerful force for change!

If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a private message and I’ll do my best to help. To send me a private message, go to the My Pulse category, click on My Inbox, then click on Write new message and send it to turtledove100.

Again, welcome and I look forward to hearing your voice in the community!

Kind regards,

"Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach" (Clarissa Pinkola Estes, author and poet)
