MATERNAL HEALTH IN MY COMMUNITY AREA

MATERNAL HEALTH IN MY COMMUNITY AREA

Maternal Health is an important issue that need adequate enlightenment, improvement in the standard of living of mothers and girls, especially in my community area where women in purdah dominate.

It will be of a good benefit if the maternal health could understand my vision in this issues, because women in purdah are not cater for and are not recognized in the Nigeria government we are no where to be found and the constitution gives freedom of religion and taught, but the reverse is the case . Often we are molest, embarrass in the community hospital telling us to take off our purdah or else we should go and create our own community that we be treated by women in purdah.

This are the cause of our setback in the society, our purdah is a command and not a mere use object for fashion, it shows the level of piety of a women in is religion. So, is dear not to be molest it should be respected . All this are resulting into wrong motive of going to hospital by most purdah women even educated ones and they preferred to labor at home rather than hospital.

I had this story of my, happen recently and often treating others. There is a newly married couple living next to my street, she’s a Muslim and women in purdah, she’s a petty trader well respect and jovial, has said by her neighbor, but the husband of this woman are the types that travel often, hardly does he spent a week at home. Therefore the woman and the neighbor are thus remain at home.

The problem started when the woman took in (pregnant) and fail to register at the hospital due to the ideology she has had on the treatment received by most Muslims in the hospital and at the same time wrong impression about western education, she decided not to go to the hospital.

When the pregnancy mature to delivery stage, as her neighbor was encouraging her, she continue telling them that , that is the stand of her and her husband she has to labor at home and their will be no problem.

On her delivery day the husband was not around and shes furiously laboring and the labor was bleeding, the neighbor want to locate the husband but couldn’t, and she insisted on not going to the hospital because of her ignorance and bad ideology oriented in her. At the end of the day when this bleeding did not stopped she agree in order to safe her life , but she did not escape death .

Assuming their is maternal health programme controlling by women in purdah in her community area or the one that will include women in purdah in their programme without discrimination , this woman will have free access to her counterpart and the wrong notion would have been corrected in her, even she too will tell others that what they are thinking is not likes that and bring more light to their ignorant.
