Any one else working on Disability issues?

jornada_yucatah.jpg

My name is Klaudia and I´m Mexican. I currently work for RENAPRED, a very unique organization that promotes a culture of prevention with respect to maternal risks and situations that can cause disabilities for a newborn. My main task is to reproduce RENAPRED’s course of action in Latin America. Most of our efforts are focused on real time training delivered to thousands of young people.

So I´ve been wondering if is there anyone else interested in disability issues? I would love to hear from you!

cheers from Mexico
Klaudia

Hello Klaudia!

I've been volunteering since 2012 at FUNDAL, http://www.fundal.org.gt/, an organization non-profit that focuses in education for the hearing impared and blind boys and girls of Guatemala, specially those who can't afford to spend so much money to their special needs.

Actually, this Sunday we'll be heading to the streets with my fellow volunteer friends to make some "propaganda" so people can get to know about the organization, and with hope, help us by cooperating in the various programs, or help us with the materials for the kids. We want all the people, associations, other organizations, everyone who is interested, to get actively involved with FUNDAL.

Hi!

Hi Klaudia!

I have been involved with the disability community here in Uganda. I am looking into children for the most part. I am researching on inclusive education as well as awareness for the community (to help with integration). I suppose I concentrate, for the most part, on inclusiveness- all aspects of their lives.

I talked to one woman, who has a hearing impairment. She is a professor at a college here. I could share her story with you. She is a mother and told me a bit about her experience in the maternity ward, during the birth of her son.

It would be interesting to hear about your work in Mexico.

Inclusion

Hi Klaudia,
In my work with youth I have worked with I have come across various types of disabilities: intellectual and physical being the most common ones. Many youth that end up in conflict with the law have learning disabilities that were not dealt with properly during their early years. Others, because of involvement in criminal activities such as gangs, end up in wheelchairs after being shot. I have found that collaborative work is very, very important, especially with individuals and groups that do vocational, occupational and physical therapy.

Susan Cruz

Hello Klaudia, great job you

Hello Klaudia, great job you are doing!

I am very keen on disability issues, amongst girls/women and how it relates to sexual exploitation, violence and women empowerment.

The long term goal is to change/improve Legislation that promotes inclusiveness of these group into democratic affairs and good governance but for now i, i empower and provide support to these vulnerable women any way i can.

Any chance we could work together?

Love,

Our Voices make the WORLD PULSate...

The Convention!!!

Dear Vweta!!!
Thaks for repplying my post. Actually, Mexico was one of the main promoters of the Convention on the PwD' rights. So, if we have made important legislative and administrative changes. If you think you need my contribution or somebody else's in Mexico, we'll be more than happy to help.

Yes please!

Thank you Klaudia. I would need your help and all the help I can get.

First if you could help me with videos or stories of people living with disabilities yet actively involved in public issues, that would go a long way!

One major problem we face in Nigeria is stigmatization and it has made us (living with disabilities) loose faith in our abilities. Some of us are qualified for certain jobs but do not apply because we always say to ourselves "people not living with disabilities are not getting the jobs, what chance do I have?" Other times prospective employers tell us to our face that we can't get the job because of our disabilities even though they know we can do it and are qualified to do it.

I really hope we can change some if not all of these stereotypes and stigmatization of vulnerable people in Nigeria together.

With Gratitude,

Our Voices make the WORLD PULSate...
Vweta.

Hi Klaudia, well done

I work with women in Kakamega women telecentre in a rural community in Kenya. Among them we have disability cases and we have been working on them since the year 2010. Given the chance I am very much willing to work together with you and your organization to serve the disabled as I believe we can do something better

WORKING WITH DISABLED CHILDREN

Presently i work with physical disabled challenged children, such as autism, down syndrome, celebral palsy, epilepsy etc.but my major challenge is that some of these children are abandoned and neglected by their parents and siblings due to their physical state.i have a case at hand where a child suffering from cerebral palsy[a diseased condition where the child body was deformed and she drops spittle from her mouth due to her tongue was longer than than the two lips}despite her challenged state, she was raped by some unknown hoodlums.actually it was a pitiable sight to behold because the situation made her to be withdrawn into her shell.most of these parent care less about these children.some drop them on the street to beg for arm, while some are neglected roaming about the street. i will be glad if u can work with me to enable me reach out to these unfortunate one by providing proper mentoring to their parents and special care these abandoned children.also parents should be properly educated on how to take care of their unborn baby during the stage of pregnancy .

Dear Gabriel

I work on Disabilities prevention mostly related to unborn and newborn children. Please, let me know how we can collaborate. We're more than happy to help.
