Bringing people closer to books
This is my first time to be part of a book club. It's exciting. I do love books very much. I love the feel of books, the colors, the textures, the newness, and the sense of ownership of a worn-out book.
What I most particularly enjoy is the stories of the people and places within those books. I particularly enjoy autobiography - for the voice of the person, the lived experiences, and getting a glimpse of the choices made which led him/her to where he/she is to write a book is just fascinating. For almost the same reason I love historical books. Historical novels bring about the best of two worlds.
I came across this book club through the Voice of Future 2013 program. I am a participant and would love to continue onto the next level of this journey that will keep me hooked to the program for 6 more months. We are right now at the 3rd assignment which more or less deals with digital media. We were introduced to World Pulse Groups and are encouraged to join and contribute to the groups. And the book club is the one place I would absolutely want to be. I am information specialist by profession - so this is the natural choice.
That is just a bit on who I am and why I joined this group.
I also wanted to share with you about a reading campaign that we have launched over here in the Maldives. Recognizing the gap that is emerging between people and books given the current online revolution we thought it would be appropriate to do something to jazz up a love for books.
This programs is being conducted in conjunction with the World Book and Copyright day, April 2013. To come in shape for the program we have opened up a Photo Competition to the public. The theme is OUR PEOPLE, OUR LOVE FOR BOOK. You can find us on "Photo Competition"
