Such a journey this is proving to be

Hello lovely people,

The submissions for the second week is over and most of us, I believe are waiting for the new assignment. Wondering what new waters we will tread. It's exciting as well as a bit nerve wrecking to bring out words that touch on sensitive topics.

We have had the opportunity to read real life stories of resilient women from throughout the world.

My experience during the last two weeks here has shown me that this is proving to be a great journey. I feel a lot more strength, a lot more energy, and a lot more positivity in myself about my future. And I like to believe it is the same for everyone out there. I am right, am I not?

Some of us are here to bring out the demons within us to the surface to stare it in its face and to tell it we are not afraid. Some of us are here to bring the cruelties surrounding us and our people to the notice of the world to gather support for a good cause. Some of us are here for the opportunity to network & grow in intellectual maturity. What all of us have in common is the need and desire to be a reckoning force that brings about positive changes in our communities. And all of us believe women are generally disadvantaged and that there is a need to empower them. At the same time I believe that we should all try to include our other half - the men. We need to educate our men and sensitize them to gender issues. We need to make our men folk understand.

Anyways, I just thought I will say a huge hi with a huge smile, to one and all in this community of VOF 2013.

I would also like to share my story of my mother. "She is my strength and I am her pride."

Thank you for the love you have given me in this space.

Salaam (peace be to you and to me)
Aminah from the tiny island country, the Maldives

I had to add that last line because I am deeply patriotic and I am the only Maldivian in VOF 2013.

Very Right You Are Too!

Hey,
I really couldn't have said it better!
Its been a great 2 weeks, and I hope you will agree when I say that they have been fast-paced too. All in all, I enjoyed them. Assignment 2 was way too short, makes me wish we had more of Digital campaigns and calls for submissions, besides the VOF!
All the best, Sister from another mother.

Let's wait and see what comes next.

Dear Phionah,

I enjoyed the assignments as well as the collaboration among participants and reading such wonderful works by many others. As for the length of our writing, I believe writing in short posts we are more likely to get an audience. These everyone seems to be busy and the information overload does not help.
So in the little time people get, they will tend to read shorter articles.
If we can put our words in precise paragraphs in well structured sentence we can quite a lot of what we want even with 500 words.

But yes, at times we might want to write more :)

Regards,
Aminah

Big Smiles to you too

Aminah thank you for your positivity, and for your ability to share yourself so willingly. I have also learnt a lot from this experience, I always tend to do a lot, but I do not take the time to write and reflect and write. But I love to write, my heart opens out and love through words and spaces between those words flow through them. So I am happy for this oppportunity and now I can say I know someone from the Maldives.

Life is just for living

Writing definitely opens up our heart

Glad to meet you Nadz
This Maldivian is so glad to have 'met' such an energetic Jamaican.

I have met people from so many different countries in person. But never have met a Jamaican before.
Now I have :)
Glad to have you visit my humble space over here at World Pulse.

Superb!

I applaud you dear friend, for taking the initiative to talk about the past two weeks. They have been indeed a roller coaster, some stories really touched us to the core others angered us, others made us women proud to be associated with other women who were boldly fighting for the marginalised.

Yes, we have different reasons why we entered this writing contest and of joining World Pulse, but I hope and believe the goal is one; to be together and join our Voices to be heard and taken note of. I agree with you, we do need to involve men, not all of them are monsters, some of them are also shamed by their counterparts. Today there was a conference held in South Africa at the Turbine Hall, the Organisation is called brothersforlife.

I applaud you from being the only one from the Maldives, but having interacted with you, I believe in to time, there would be an influx on World Pulse from the Maldives, I have a feeling you could turn this to a movement :D.

Awaiting week 3 assignment with abated breath.

Keep well and writitng.

Loretta.

You are awesome

Loretta,

You are leaving your mark on me and my writing and my outlook.
Leaving well thought out and meaningful comments help us improve our own ways of thinking and doing things.
Thank you for your effort in making the comments very productive.
And I am glad to hear about the conference. It would have been so nice to see more men even on this platform. I mean it is not restricted to just one gender, right?

I wonder why there aren't more men here.

Anyways, thanks again for the love and support.
With the new assignment we will have more writing, reading, editing and evaluating to do. The commenting and collaboration is the most time consuming bit. Yet I enjoy it :) this interaction is where I learn the most.

Aminah

Thank you!

Your writing is great, so comments just flow out flying :D.

I haven't really researched that much about the that group. I just knew it existed and it's activities and that it's highly supportd in the higher echelons of politics. I should take note if there are any women involved.

I somehow doubt it, the problem is the Women group supporting rape victims are more vocal in highly publiced incidents and those that are ordinarily raped, abused or murdered they are s i l e n t, you can feel a pin dropping.

True, commenting is time consuming, we do it for the love of others, to support, encourage and motivate. Not that we seem to know better, but to show our own commitment to propel World Pulse to the highest stage where it belongs.

See you around Week 3 writing & commenting.

Loretta.

All the best to you

hello
journey has been indeed hectic and interesting. I feel there is more in evry person but if you don't mind my saying so I admire your passion and support. reading and commencting on the work of others and posting a lot yourself I must say that's commentable.this is probsbly the best journey of my life and my husband has commentd on the new me.excited and thinking about innovations and solutions more than I used to. im sure that by the end of the journey you cannot be the same person ever again

we may be powerless to stop an injustice but let there never be a time we fail to protest.
regards
pela

That's what life teaches us. With every new step we take we gain something more. And it does not work backwards. We cannot shed it off.

This journey on World Pulse will leave it's mark in a positive way, I am sure about that.

It is great to hear that you are more energized and being more innovative. Keep it up and keep smiling.

I know I am smiling. I am smiling after a long time :)

how so sweet!

Dear Aminah, your words touched my heart. I too feel the same as you do about the VOF, more power, more strength and more positivity. That's what we all must have been experiencing. And I couldn't agree more that we need to include our male folks and make them understand about the gender issues. Keep sharing, keep writing!

Dear Therese Nice to hear

Dear Therese

Nice to hear from you.
And yes we will make the change that we want to see. We are the people who can do it.
In the process we will bring men aboard. They need to be educated and sensitized to our concerns.

Keep the encouragement going.

The New Education is Needed!

That's right! Men need to be educated because they are growing bad because our society tolerate many things they do. Imagine the society tolerate a debauched men but if it's a woman, they stand up all and can even kill a women in other society, that is not fair!

About the religious in catholic church, if they discover that a religious women is a prostitute, they chase her away, but if it's a religious men they only send him in another country, That's no fair!

I think we must begin a new education in the entire society because the world is destroying everywhere.
We must raise and raise our voices together we will change the World!

See you on line my sister!

THERESE( Maman Shujaa, Drc)

I wish i could be more active around here and grt in touch with applicants trying to do my best i love the energy creativity around the VOF2013 keep it up

So nice to see you here Ola.

It's just so great to meet such active women who are working towards emancipation.

This week's assignment was tougher than the last two. And I finally managed to upload mine. I still need to make some revision as it's a bit over the word limit.

Anyways, thanks for coming by and leaving an encouraging feedback.

Wish you all the best.
