Your “stories” are mine too, that’s why I’m here
I am a human rights activist, social change agent who advocates for gender justice in a country like Sudan, where violence against women is systematic and institutionalized socially, legally and politically; I chose my way long time ago, in the age of sixteen I became a very active member of political group in my secondary school advocating for democracy, we were literally kids, we have not experienced what democracy means, yet we believed that it’s our life’s goal.
I then enrolled the University of Khartoum to study law, during my university study I was involved in students’ political and social movement, I was one of very few women who speak on behalf of other students, leading the discussion forums and engage in protests and demonstrations. I used to speak six hours every week in public forums in different composes; speaking is powerful tool of interaction.
As same as writers, speakers should read a lot, they should be well aware of the issues of their community. Reading means someone is writing! Writing reaches more people especially with the existence of online media, that’s why I started to write.
Motivated by my friend and office mate Yosra Akasha who starts writing in different platforms years ago, I have started blogging very recently, I have discovered the power of writing when I look at the stats of my blog and find that I have had readers from all over the globe, it’s an amazing. Eventually I start to engage in different writing forums, take online courses to sharp my writing skills.
I have heard about world pulse for the first time from a friend of mine who sent me the link of voices of our future’s advert; I found it as the most suitable program for someone like me, who starts writing with passion and eagerness to learn new skills. I am here to share, learn and get inspired.
We both me and my colleague are now members of this amazing community, I am here not only to win and to get trained on citizen journalism, I am here to learn throughout the application’s process I am writing this piece so I am already gaining experience, I am here to use my journal as my voice, I am here to get to know more people from all over the globe and to interact with women stories, I am here because your stories are mine too.
