Next Stop: Outer Space

My life over the last two years has been a cosmic, out of body experience. I trudged along for five years doing this work of mine, inspiring, empowering, teaching young women to lead, talking to them about their voice, their value, their worth. Talking to them about making an impact, about their leadership, about their bodies in this land. Then I discovered a Caribbean community of women like myself sisters from the Caribbean isles, who too had stories of transformation from St. Lucia to Belize. My two weeks in the summer of 2010 of connecting with beautiful Caribbean women made me realize the value of community and of sisterhood, I could now practice what I preached.

Then together us Jamaican sisters raised our voice in a most powerful call for more women in leadership, but particularly for young women to begin to speak with confidence, we asked our older sisters for mentorship, for guidance for a cross-generational dialogue and holding of hand and we got it. So now my experience was not just national and regional it was cross generational. And just when I thought I had 'maxed' out on where this message of women's leadership could go, I was on my way to Turkey to AWID, to learn some and understand lots, and be awed immensely by the stories and the teachings and the teachers and the women and the people and the complexities which as women we deconstruct and reconstruct for our own salvation. Strangely enough, I felt that there was more to do, I know there was lots more to do, there were other places to go and be and talk and inspire some more, then a sister called on a quiet Friday afternoon and said off to South Africa for you and tell this story some more speak for us, bring our experiences and concerns back to the motherland and make connections in the highest places and then I went and I was awed by this story which had now become international and was being added to and expanded with each journey.

Then there I was two weeks in California at the Women in Public Service Programme (WPSP) with twenty-nine sisters from Brazil, Venezuela, Guyana, Haiti, Chile; and more.... and there I was telling the story and adding to it and having my sisters add words and paragraphs and meaning. There in California, someone said World Pulse and my heart skipped a beat and it became a part of my own, pulse, my own heartbeat, my own muse. I immediately, connected to Web 2.0 and I signed up because this voice in my head kept saying, another set of sisters to add words, meanings, paragraphs, they are waiting.
