My Story

For some time in my life I kept on asking my self-why me? But this was some years back when I felt like the world had narrowed on me. Being a single parent of two boys at such an early age was not easy, worse still at the same time was trying to complete a university degree because I had registered for “dead years”. For all this time I had bitterness inside of me that I did not want to share my story with any stranger until one day at my current job, I met a female friend who encouraged me share with her, “something that continually was eroding on my self esteem”
I shared with her a bit of my story. It is from here that she encouraged me to join social networks; face book in particular, her argument was I would get to meet and interact with people from all over the world. My aim was to search for people going through what I was going; i did not get any but friends. I signed up for face book and within a short time I had friend requests from all walks of life and one of them is Grace Ikirimat who invited me to like and join World pulse in 2012. First I was reluctant thinking it is one of those platforms where stereotype women display their skills and hype, and then I first browsed through the world pulse before accepting her invitation.
After joining world pulse I was able to read the different stories as told from every corner of the world about women. I realized these stories are unique and represent the voices of many other voiceless women.
I remember one day at my place of work the receptionist called me to meet someone who needed to see me, but before that briefed me on what I was going for (Probably because she noticed I could handle that). There at the reception was a married woman whose husband assaulted and left their marital home a few months back for another woman. This other woman happened to be my colleague at work and so the other woman had collected information ready to attack and embarrass this one at work. Long story short I went and talked this lady out of her plans, she yielded and went back home calm. The next day I received a call on an office line, she was thankful and asked for my phone number. From then on I have been talking to her and giving her a word of counsel, and from her recommendation I have handled two similar cases; one from her church and other from her neighborhood all this on phone until a time she invited me for a cup of coffee at her home with the other two.
I am inspired to take this to another level; organize us to be a voice the victims of domestic violence now that I am on this platform.

Inspiring

I sense that these encounters are no accident and that Grace and others have been brought to you as you have strong shoulders on which you can lighten the burdens of others. You have a calling.

Even with the struggles you were dealing with in your own life, you are able to connect deeply with your colleague. Thank you for sharing this story.

Do not be discouraged by

Do not be discouraged by life's difficulty at times since there are always good times and bad times. Wish all the best after learning to connect with others as you do. I also work on domestic violence and built a NGO. It can be achieved! Cheers,
Hideko N.

Strength...

Hi Christine,

You have a quiet and passionate strength of purpose to you. Within you is a fire that wants to make a difference in the lives of others, and has already, and will continue to do so. Thank you for being who you are and for sharing your story. Thank you for feeling safe enough to step out of your comfort zone and for having taken the steps to shed some layers and receive support with your own story. That act has served to enable you to now be of service to others. The beginnings of a long future in what will be lifelong work! Thank you again.

All the best,
Laura
