Dancing in the Dark

I love to dance!
They say I do not have the body for it
My legs dangle like a lame man's own
My waist wriggles like there are batteries in it
Sometimes I leap like a frog
Yes I believe them
I am bad news on the dance floor!
But I love to dance

My music is in my pen
It plays songs for womankind
It speaks for the oppressed
It says "STOP!" to darkness
And says “STAY!" to light
So how can I not dance?

Obscurity overwhelms
Brightness seems scarce
But I am certain that
Movies can move
Yes they can move women forward
That's why I should dance

One pen can change lives
It can make men dance through the night
And bring the morning fast
That pen is mine!
It will sing
And I will dance

The path may be filled with rocks
Yet I will not be perturbed.
I will keep refilling my ink
So that my pen can sing
And when it sings
I may not follow the rhythm
But I will dance!

bring on the music...

Dance your dance for that's the beauty in YOU dancing to the music you hear - it's self expression and doesn't need to be confirmed to 'right and wrong'/'black and white'.

I was attracted to the post because I am a dancer and I loved how you tied it in with empowerment! :) I don't always get the moves that the group has to coordinate but they love me all the same because I bring my own into the fold...

Keep dancing/writing!

TJ

Wao TJ

Dear TJ,

I am thrilled to know that you are a dancer. You know, some people think one must dance in a particular way in order for the dancing to be 'right.'

I love poetry because it gives room for creativity. We can bring other experiences in life into poetry and still get our message across. How is your dancing going?

Thanks immensely for stopping by and dropping your comment. I really do appreciate.

Much love

Dance on Precious

When I read you post I remembered the lyrics (below) of one of my favourite songs, 'I hope you dance'

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances
But they're worth taking
Lovin' might be a mistake
But it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart
Leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out
Reconsider
Give the heavens above
More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
I hope you dance
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
(Time is a real and constant motion always)
I hope you dance
(Rolling us along)
I hope you dance
(Tell me who)
(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)
I hope you dance
(Where those years have gone)

WAO!

Dear Lintajo,

I won't miss a chance to dance. I absolutely enjoyed reading through those lyrics. I do not know the song but it sounds like a 'danceable' one. We should always find an opportunity to dance no matter the circumstances we face.
What an encouraging song! I am certainly dancing on.
Thank you dear.

Your poem reminded me of Emma

Your poem reminded me of Emma Goldman's famous quote, "If I can't dance, I won't join your revolution."
