2013 VOF Week 1

Web 2.0 is a powerful tool for connecting women to resources and raising social awareness and responsibility to societal global issues. As a solutions-based Momprenuer, this encourages and excites me! The outlet for voice and the critical thinking engagement exercises of my past has now been rekindled. Collectively, women can change the world by coming out from behind ourselves and become the leaders in our community that we were born to be. It is the being and becoming, through connection with others that I look forward to. The Journey is upon us.
The global women’s empowerment movement is spurred by solutions such as Web 2.0 and Catapult. This portal of active voices, action and philanthropy has the ability to directly impact the reporter and citizen journalists environment within a matrix. Solutions do not have to be linear in delivery, but now have the ability to incorporate a multi-prong approach to sustainable change through communication, awareness, action, delivery and support. Solutions that have scaffolding of learning and training with infrastructural support through NGOs and governments, with eyes on the street reporters, would be ideal for long term social, global change for women. Money cannot solve every issue. Women’s collective tools can assist peoples to thrive and impact their community through local citizenship and outreach.
The global moral compass is exposed through the self reporting of women. The world cannot ignore the facts of the reporters’ experiences and this is a powerful communication tool. The advantage of being heard and validated no longer includes a book tour. People are able to unite around a cause for a purpose higher than their daily existence. This is a game changer.
This outlet of World Pulse is a creative voice for me. Since graduating college and AmeriCorps, I miss serving women and advocating issues. With World Pulse as a partner, this dialogue empowers mentoring, shared ideas, cross-cultural values and that is what makes my soul dance. My global sisters are changing the world, bringing voice to the voiceless and saving lives. Our life’s experience has purpose and is important to be shared that it may lighten the burden of others. That is living an authentic, significant life and that is the path that I want to share with friends.

Your passion for empowering women really comes through in this post! I agree that the process of sharing, whether its uplifting stories of triumph or instances of trauma and difficulty, lightens the burden of suffering. Mentorship is another great opportunity provided by Web 2.0. You identified as a "solutions-based Mompreneur" - it would be interesting to hear more about what that means, especially thoughts on how those skills relate to some of the gender inequality issues we read about on World Pulse.

Thanks for sharing!

Very well put!

I love your point about Web 2.0 as a game changer. The truly global reach of Web 2.0 is something that we have never experienced before. We are now free to choose to be active around issues affecting the entire planet, not just our own backyards. This enables us to find our passions and chase them (virtually and otherwise), and draw upon a huge network of experiences and shared knowledge to unite around what really inspires us. Thank you for sharing (and lightening someone's burden!) :)
