Web 2.0 shaped my personality!!

Since the civil war started my country became a hot zone. I always felt like we were disconnected from the outside world and our chances to be among the global community was narrowed by the chaos and destruction going on. In the midst of all that, I longed for tranquility, peace, and wanted to see what it was like living somewhere else and the answer to that for me was the internet. I started using the internet beginning 00s and since then I was so amazed by the power of the internet.
I was an enthusiastic reader and loved reading novels from cover to cover to discover the lives of the characters and how different it was from my reality. I was interested in people and cultures and reading was my way of exploring the world in my limited ways. I knew it was a work of fiction but I convinced myself it was real and I use to escape to the world of books and indulge myself in finishing 500 pages in just one day. Having access to the internet was such a great opportunity because I started chatting with international people using Paltalk, cupidbay, or other chat site that I can find, just to be able to talk to people far, far away. I wanted to be able to practice my English, and travel the world, experience the interactions of different cultures by talking to people from all over the world. I discovered blogs and started reading and it was an eye opening experience to learn about true personal experiences. Facebook is also a huge part of my life.
I became a global mind and surely Web 2.0 was a huge part of that process, I have an international personality because of ti. The most used idiom in Somalia is “You are in Somalia, not the world” which somewhat negatively indicates that Somalia is not part of this world and it’s isolated.
Web 2.0 gives me the opportunity to read through the personal experiences of other individuals and actually relate to it, and that’s very empowering for me, because it allows me not feel alone or isolated from the rest of the world anymore. I enjoy the experience sharing and support system it provides for individuals like me who are just trying to be part of this world.
For women like me, Web 2.0 has the potential to become a platform for empowerment, to have a voice and express ourselves, and to allow us to become a support system for each other despite the distance between us. Web 2.0 is the answer to end violence against women, discrimination, and inequality through writing our experiences and sharing it with the global community. The world we live in today is a global village and its fascinating how Web 2.0 can allow people across continents to stand together to support a case and actually have their voices heard. We can change the world to the better utilizing this very amazing tool.
