Week 1 Assignment - Voices Rising

What excites me most about Web.2 is that it will provide me with tools that can help me grow and support my various visions and connect me with allies that will help me to bring about social changes. I have always believed that I was free and able to communicate freely and openely, but I soon found out that, I was wrong. I often wrote letters to the Media about certain social issues but they never got published.

It affords women to be able to communicate openly about issues that bother them or others closer to them or around them. It opens a wider platform for women to empower themselves and carry their voices far and wide across Continents. Women were previously disadvantaged, in that they were forced by circumstances not of their own making not to air their plight or grievances, they were forced to suffer in silence, but Web.2 has broken that barrier, it has opened doors and raises women voices louder.

They can be empowering to me, because they would be allowing me to express my inner feelings, connect with other like minded people and share issues with them, issues that I may not be able to solve on my own and they would also expose me to the challenges out there and also put me within reach of assistance in whatever form I may need.

Voices rising - week 1 assignment.

It has been a struggle for me to connect and post my assignment, as my computer keeps crushing, I just hope I will get to finish participating. I am very excited about this project.

Great effort

Very true loretta.

Web 2.0 allows us to overcome the publishing hurdle that we face on corporate publishing channels like newspapers, magazines, journals or even on tv spots.

Web 2.0 allows self publishing and if we do it right, we can reach quite a lot of people all over the world. And World Pulse is one of those online communities that can help us make a difference.

I wish you luck in your efforts to keep pace with this journey. I hope your computer cooperates:)

Aminah

Indeed!

Very much true, Aminah, I hope it comes right. It's just that I share it with my children & suspect it's "overloaded" hehehe. Web.2 is the future for women!!

The future is bright...

hello dear
thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings...I read your profile as well, you are a very strong women and must be proud of yourself to keep your spirit high and have beautiful children...
I admire you for wanting to go back to studying, that could be a very good example for your children; what you are already doing by participating in this course is already a great example.
As Aminah wrote you can use Web 2.0 very well to share your thoughts...my suggestion would be to pick one or two topics specifically and write about them from different angles, talk to your neighbours and friends and reflect their ideas too.
I see that you have used several tags for your post as well, that's very good, it helps for your posts to be recognized better...keep up the good work and be sure that the future is bright!

all the best
Somaye

oh, thank you.

Hahaha, why thanks. As I say, I have computer problems, I wasn't sure the first one was successfully submitted as I had not added the tag the group agreed on. I eventually ended up using my cellphone to submit again. Not wanting to miss the deadline. I tried looking for that post but couldn't find it, as I said my computer is giving me problems.

Well thanks again, I do love writing, at some stage I contempated writing a novel, but as it was intended as a hobby I never got round to it. My first love was and is still is Medicine, when I said I intended to study was to further that dream. Unfortunately due to financial reasons, my twin girls started Tertiary last year and my last born started High School and that was that, my dream just went down the river. But all is not lost as I am starting an NPO that would partly fulfill that dream.

Regards
Lele (Loretta).

Thank You

Dear Loretta,

Thank you for conveying your hopes and dreams in this assignment. I appreciate what you said about women's voices being carried (via Web 2.0), about meeting like-minded allies -- very much the essence of World Pulse -- and about women being able to communicate openly (through Web 2.0).

All of that is honest and crucial, and by speaking out about it, you are taking the first step toward making the world a better place.

Best Regards,

Sarah Whitten-Grigsby

thank you too.

Thank you for those inspiring words. I will strive to do exactly that, communicate across barriers, bring awareness and work towards making the world a better and different place.

loretta's picture

indeed!

Thanks indeed, that is the gist of the matter - the ability for women to communicate, transcending barriers and only Web.2 affords them that luxury.

May this site continue to be the best engine ever to spread the previously silenced Voice loud and WIDE!

My appreciation.
Loretta.

Brave lady!

Hello Loretta,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and dreams with us....not to mention a few of the "frustrations" such as difficult computers. It takes so much courage to be a mother and to work towards making the world a better place for our selves and our children.

You are a brave soul and your courage comes thru your words loud and clear. This is indeed, an amazing platform for women's voices to be raised and heard. The time of "suffering in silence" is over.

With great hope and faith for you,
Kate

Thank you!

Hi Loretta,

Thank you for writing and being a part of the WorldPulse community. I'm so glad that you kept writing even though the newspapers did not publish your pieces yet (I'm sure they will soon!). To make your writing even better for the future, please consider adding in more personal examples/stories. You had 270 more words available to you before reaching the world limit and I would encourage you to use them.

All the best to you as you continue to utilize web 2.0!
Mila

Thanks Mila.

Thank you for your encouragement. As I have said, I have computer problems and as is, I had to use my cellphone to submit the assignment and am still using it.

I will certainly take your advice, thanks again.

God bless you.
