An Ample World Behind A Tiny Screen
Perhaps, it is not more than a few months that I got the opportunity to find access to the internet. I was a girl filled with dreams and hopes for myself, for the other girls from my community and for my community as a whole. For the girls who dream for a better life, quest for a change, and stand for raising their voice, what would be more helpful than to find a tool through which they can learn, they can share, and they can change their dreams to realities and deeds? Of course the answer is a universal medium, a worldwide communication, and the Web 2.0. It excites me. It excites me because while sitting in front of a tiny laptop in my small room, I travel around the world. It excites me when I speak to groups of inspiring women from different countries and they listen to me, they encourage me to speak, and they take my hands and tell me that their stories are the same as mine. It excites me. The opportunities and a worldwide communications for women brought by Web 2.0 excite me.
I remember the time when I once heard a saying: “No man is an island,” and now I realize what values the sentence carries with itself in reality. In the world where women are considered as an inferior group in every corner and spot of the society, it is essential to shriek our pains and to discover a solution. The Web 2.0 gives the opportunity to any single woman and especially for those whose voices have been muted for the centuries. Web 2.0 is an opportunity for every woman to take part in any social, economic, or political activities which involves her society or the world as a whole. Through Web 2.0 Women can split the worldwide borders and rush for helps in places where there is a pain, where there is a dream, or where there is a struggle for change. Now I believe that NO WOMAN IS AN ISLAND. Woman can empower and support each other by communicating through Web 2.0 and share their ideas, their works, and their experiences.
Therefore, Web 2. 0 for the one who has just started her journey far away from home and not even in her own country is advocating. Web 2.0 for me as a student teaches knowledge and prepares me with information. It allows me to explore and discover the facts. It convinces me to listen and enables me to speak. It allows me to communicate with inspiring people without considering the geographical or cultural boundaries ahead. Finally, it allows me to see the ample world through a tiny screen of my laptop and then strive to take an action.
