Welcome!

Hello Radiocami,

Welcome to our community here! If you would like some tips on how to make use of the site, I encourage you to look at our Getting Started Guide (http://worldpulse.com/pulsewire/about/guide).

I really look forward to hearing more from you about your country. So little reaches us in the USA about Venezuela, I look to you as an expert. Your voice is important.

What are some of the documentaries that you especially enjoy? I love doc films too, I watch them more than any other type of film.

Again, a warm welcome to our inspiring network. See you online again soon I hope.
Best wishes,

Scott Beck

Hi Scott!

Thank you for that welcome!
The download link to the Guide did not work, it took me to a google login page but I do not have a world pulse email. I tried my WP login info but that didn't work. Can I find this info anywhere else on the site?

I am currently living in California because Venezuela is too dangerous and very difficult to live and work in at the moment but my hope is that after all this chaos, things will improve, and my goal is to return to help create social change in some way. I have family and other contacts there so I hope to bring valuable information from the ground even though I'm not there currently.

I love all types of documentaries for different reasons, there are many bio pic docs that are so well produced that they are much like entertainment movies while still telling someone's story, like the Vidal Sassoon story. My favorite is probably In The Realms of The Unreal, another one I liked was A Man Named Pearl. I also like historical, social and nature documentaries for their sheer educational value and their ability to expose alternate experiences or problems in society, though many of these need to develop a more positive spin or offer solutions in order to be successful nowadays. An old one I find very interesting, which melds this with the character driven approach is Dark Days. The first two films in the Quatsi trilogy might be my all time favorites. Last week I saw was Jiro Dreams of Sushi, I liked it although the filmmaker used techniques from the Quatsi trilogy which, though beautiful made it seem unoriginal at times. All of these however are either about men, made by men or both and I want there to be more films like these, depicting women's stories, which is something I'd like to make happen and one of the main reasons I went to film school. I started to make one about my journey to healing epilepsy the natural way, though it's currently on hold.
There are so many other favorite docs that I'm forgetting now... which do you like? Or what style of docs do you most like to watch?

I'm very exited to be here and I look forward to being of service in whatever way possible.
Thank you for being here and working in this community!

Great!

Hey Valerie,
Thanks for such a thorough reply! I'm sorry the Guide didn't work, I'm not sure what the issue is. You can find it by hovering over the "PulseWire" tab at the top of any page here, and then clicking on the "Getting Started" link. Hopefully that works!

I think it's great you have dreams of returning home to Venezuela to create social change. I'm sure you will get there too.

We share a number of favorite documentaries! I loved the Quatsi movies too, though when my father insisted I watch them when I was under ten years old, I have to say I was a bit lost! Haha. As for recent releases, I really enjoyed "Man On Wire", and "Buck". Those are both about men too, interesting. One that I enjoyed about a woman was "Chisolm '72: Unbought and Unbossed" about a female African American candidate for president--a very interesting film. Besides biographical types, I love films about music and art. Some in particular are "Amandla!", "Soul Power", "Young at Heart", "Between the Folds" and "Herb and Dorothy".

Like you say, there are so many favorites it can be hard to remember! I probably watch at least one a week. :)

Glad to have you here, and I'm thrilled to see you're participating in the application for the training program.

Take care, and enjoy being a part of this network!

Welcome

Hi Radiocami!

I see you have written "finding my role" as one of your challenges. Be that as it may, it seems you are well on your way! You also seem to have many talents that can be utilized in this forum, and a voice that needs to be heard!

Please be sure to write a journal entry, either pasting your profile into the entry, or writing a short piece on a passion or vision. We would love to hear how you heard about WP, and what drew you to the organization. That way, other WP members can comment or reply.

As you explore the WP site you will be able to see all the exciting things going on and ways to take action. I have found the quickest way to enter into this community is to click on the "Voices Rising" link, which is under the "PulseWire" tab near the top of the screen. From there you can easily access and read journal entries, and perhaps make a comment in reply. In order to add people to your community, click on the person's name. You will be taken to their profile, and can click on the 'add to my community' link under their photo.

Looking forward to reading about what is happening in your country!

Peace and Hope-

Hi!

Thank you for your welcome message and your tips on navigating the site, it can be a bit confusing at times so I appreciate the assistance. Also, I think you're right, I must be on my way as just being here is following my passion to be of service to women and the natural world. In the next weeks I'll be posting based on the assignments for the Voices of Future competition, I hope you will get to read any of them and comment if you feel drawn to do so.
I know about World Pulse because I'm always researching about organizations that either work with Women or do work in Africa and Latin America, so at some point I must have come across the site... I joined and then did nothing about it for a few years until now, as I feel confident and ready to make ripples.
I now live in California, I'm just one of a massive exodus of Venezuelans, but hope to return to do work there to help improve things, as our situation is quite grim right now.
Please let me know if there's anything I can do for you.
All the best to you, much love,
camila

That is very sweet of you to say. So far, I feel so supported in this community already. I believe strongly that a huge wave of feminine change is about to sweep the planet, and this feeling I have now of support here just adds to that reality.
