Zoe Piliafas, Voices of Our Future Program Manager:

My journey exploring the role of gender began as a young girl. I realized early on that the society in which I lived was not set up to provide equal opportunities for all her citizens. I remember reading textbooks and learning very little about the role of women. I wondered why our triumphs, tribulations and contributions were not given equal voice. As I entered college, I began to explore the lack of rights and opportunities for my sisters all over the world. I felt a calling in my soul to change this. At World Pulse, I am afforded the unique opportunity to support and lift the voices of my global sisters. Whether you are in the next city or an ocean away, I commit to each of you today, to show up and support the raising of our voices! Together we will begin the rewrite of history. A history that will also be HERstory!

Delphine Criscenzo, Voices of Our Future Associate:

I found my place on the radio. I found my voice. I had never considered being a journalist before I started being involved with community radio. I had never thought I would ever have an audience and that my concerns would ever be heard. Now, I am a citizen journalist aspiring to be a professional one. I am passionate about sharing with women the possibilities that come together when you feel that your voice is heard. I have made my life mission not to tell women’s stories, but to teach, train and mentor women to tell their own stories. You can’t imagine how grateful I am to work for World Pulse and to be part of the Voices of Our Future team because I get to work towards changing the way people think about journalism every day. And I am honored to be able to help guide you as you find your place, as you find your voice.

Together we are the Voices of Our Future team. We are here to listen and support each of you through this process.

With Deep Respect,

Zoe and Delphine

Can it be more than 500 words?

Hi there, I know we are limited to 500 words of writing. However, I found out that my writing is more than 500 words once I finished it. I wanna know if it is alright? or Should I adjust it?

Neilly,

"You can do it if you believe you can."

Word limit

Hello Neilly,

It would be alright if for example you went over or under by 20-30 words. But anything over that, I would suggest you rework a bit. I just recently wrote a blog post for WITNESS and they asked for under 700 words. It was tough, I has so much to say. As I am sure you do as well :)

I learned that the word limit it there for a reason. In that case, it was based on what would fit on the webpage and what they learned captured or lost a readers attention.

The reason we have a limit is because we want to see you express yourself in a concise or brief way. We also have our Listeners reading quite a few so the limit allows us to ensure that everyone's pieces get read.

The future assignments will be longer. Stretch yourself Neilly, figure out where you need to edit. I would suggest finding someone else to take a look at it and give you a suggestion on some things to take out. I know you can do this!!!

I SO look forward to reading your assignment!

Hi Zoe,

Thank you for a comprehensive response. I knew that the word limits is there for a reason. My writing was just few words over. That's why I asked to make sure :) I already finished the first assignment and put it up. Please feel free to check it out.
