Silence and Miracles.

I am re-posting my reply to Carrie Lee's recent journal entry, because I believe in it's power. Thanks to Carrie for inspiring me to write this: I had to learn years ago about creating space in my day, my world, my life. We do not hear what is most important until we can silence the inner chatter and the outside noise that clouds our ears. I have found this to be true in my work with children learning to speak.... my mantra is, "the silence is where the miracle happens". Most of the initial sessions are quiet, waiting for the child to respond in some way, verbal or not, and I'm always amazed, watching tiny faces turn from frustrated, to realization, to joy in that few seconds of silent waiting. Isn't that true for us, too? We need to be still. We need to wait. We need the quiet. Because, yes,

"It is in the silence when the miracle happens" -M.F.M.
