Welcome to the Voices of Our Future 2013 Applicants Group!

Welcome to the Voices of Our Future 2013 Applicants Group!

Your voice is important and we are so excited to see women from around the globe joining our group. Even though there are only 30 spaces in the full, five-month long program starting this June, we value all the efforts you will put into the application process. The connections you can make on World Pulse during this process have the potential to transform and shape our world.

When you join World Pulse, you become part of a growing family of remarkable women who are using their voices to change the world, one person, one community and one nation at a time. World Pulse exists because we believe that when women are heard they have the power to change the world. Together we will work to create a more just and equitable society. By providing you with tools and knowledge in citizen journalism and digital empowerment through Voices of Our Future Program, we hope you will drive global conversations and unleash your potential.

Starting on April 2nd, you will receive a link to our Application Classroom where you will receive four, weekly sets of learning materials introducing you to the concepts of women and media, citizen journalism, digital empowerment, and the World Pulse voice. You will then be asked to complete a short writing assignment and will post this to your World Pulse journal. These assignments will be our view into your world, your voice and your vision for the future. During this process, I encourage you to ask your fellow applicants for help! We believe that collaboration and dialogue makes us all stronger. Post questions in this group, ask for feedback on drafts and connect with one another! Together we will creatively thrive!

Our staff are also here to assist you with questions you may have. Here is a short introduction to staff:

Zoe Piliafas, Program Manager for Voices of Our Future: I have been working with World Pulse since January 2013. The last eight years I have worked in domestic education as a teacher and Director of Programs aimed towards increasing opportunities for disenfranchised communities. My passions are centered in community centered solutions and identifying systematic structures that create institutional oppression. I believe in the power and potential that lies in each of us and if provided the proper support we can all thrive. I am excited to learn and grow from the World Pulse Community.

Delphine Criscenzo, Training and Outreach Associate for Voices of our Future: I am really excited to be joining the World Pulse team. I strongly believe everyone should get an opportunity to tell their own story. I have been involved with community radio for the past four years and have been so empowered by having the ability to create journalistic content. I am now working towards a Master's degree in Multimedia journalism. I was born and raised in Aix en Provence, France, and I have lived in the U.S for 6 years. I am dedicated to spending my life raising awareness about social, racial and environmental issues.

Please don't hesitate to post your questions to the group journal. Our staff will reply as soon as we can.

With deep respect and gratitude,

Zoe

Speaking my Peace

Hi Zoe, I applied in good time before 4.2, but never found any info about joining this group to be part of the tutoring and writing. I am very sorry I did not make it, my coming NGO and existing facebook project World Wide Women are opening our own website where we in addition to bringing other peoples news, will be writing ourselves. To learn from skilled tutors would have been such an asset for me and us. Better luck next time, I guess - best regards, Ruth

VOF - Assignment - Week 2

Dear Zoe,

I have completed uploading my first assignment (week 1), and am wanting to start with assignment (week 2). When I access the Applicant Classroom page, the link to week 2 is visible. However, when I click on it to get access to the next assignment, it directs me to my personal page.

Please can someone help with the topics and instructions for completing the next assignment, due for the 15th April 2013?

Much Aprecaited.

Women and girls in my community

Thank you for allowing me to participate on the online training as I strongly believe that when a woman is given chance to be heard, the whole world will be heard. "what a man can do, a woman can do twice better" "Educate a woman and you will have educated the whole world" basing on this, I tirelessly give my services to the women and girls in ICT in our community to have this proved true.

week 2 assignment

Hi Zoe,
I know this might sound dumb but it's better that way and get direction rather than be silent and get lost. Sorry but I need to know how I can access the week 2 assignment. I checked the link and all I see is my personal profile but unlike the week 1 activity, there seems to be no link to the assignment for week 2. So what next?

Questions are for the WISE

No question is dumb my friend. It is how we learn and grow.

Each week the assignment is due at midnight Pacific Standard Time. At that time, we will make the NEXT assignment live. So, Week 2 will be live this evening and you will have 7 days to complete.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Tagging properly

This week make sure to tag your assignment: 2013 VOF Week 1.
If you tag it right, your assignment will appear on this page: http://worldpulse.com/taxonomy/term/18607
That will be a good way to double check!
If you are still having trouble let me know ASAP.

Thank you

Zoe,
i am very grateful. THANK YOU.
Bye for now.

Ladies-

WOW-I am now getting my feet on the ground and learning more and more about this amazing group. Thanks for being patient with me as I learn. I have read your postings and will comment this week, it just took me a bit to get acclimated.

This is an amazing group of people-I even thought to myself, I should back out of this experience, it seems like these people are so inspiring and I don't know what I can bring to the table. But I talked myself into staying, taking a chance to learn and grow.

I know we all come from different life paths and while I am sure I will learn a great deal, I also think we all need to step out of the comfortable and do something that scares us. This scares me because I want more than anything to be good at writing and conveying both my thoughts and the thoughts and needs of others.

Cheers and big hugs to all!

Tina

Your assignment

Hello Felevyn,

You were missing the tag on your assignment, this is why you could not see it in the right place.
I have added the right tag so you are good to go. Make sure to tag your week 2 assignment with the right tag, namely 2013 VOF Week 2.
Happy reading and writing.
Cheers,

Delphine Criscenzo

barely made it... *jumps in air*

Hey Zoe

I got overwhelmed with work and barely made the Week One assignment date - I'm now trying to get the gist of the navigation of the website. Is it safe to say that the Group Journal pulls together everyone's (personal) entries in a centralized location?

Also, is it possible to get the information for the different weeks in a .pdf version somewhere? I'm online a lot but I prefer to read offline (if possible) and then do my assignments :D

Many thanks.

TJ

Tremendous feedback

You will want to make sure that when you write your assignment entry you are writing it in YOUR journal NOT in the Group journal.

Why?

Because once the group is closed the opportunity for the ENTIRE World Pulse community to read your post is lost. If it is in your journal then people can continue to read your brilliant thought and responses to the 1st writing prompt after the application is completed.

The TAG for the Week 2 is 2013 VOF Week 2

To double check if you tagged Week 2 correctly, go here: http://worldpulse.com/taxonomy/term/18684

I love your idea of having a pdf or word document that can be downloaded. I will try to see if I can make that happen for Assignment number 3.

Great feedback!

Thanks :)

Thanks Zoe :) I just figured out how to find the journal entries from Weeks 1 & 2 via your response :)

I seem to be tagging them right cause they are showing up.

Now I can go do some reading and sharing of ideas.

Thanks once again!

Missed due date

Hi there,
Perhaps the answer of this question is super obvious, but I missed the deadline last night for Assignment #1. I could post my finished assignment today but will have effectively missed the deadline. Is it all for naught now?
Thanks!
