HELP! MALDIVES LOST FREEDOM... Journalist struggling for life.

asward_ibrahim_waheed_.JPG

Stop the violence! I ask my sisters and my brothers to help spread my voice. Maldivians needs justice, peace and love.

The young journalist who reported on the 30 year old regime lead by Maumoon Adbul Gayoom is now fighting in a hospital in Sri Lanka. If you want to see the evidence of the violence please check http://www.facebook.com/YellowMaldives His brother has been arrested. Doctors are fearful that he may not survive even if he did he may have to live a very challenging life.

Months have passed since brutal murder of the MP Dr. Afrasheem Ali and a fatal attack to a journalist Ismail Hilath Rasheed recovered after having his throat slashed. No perpetrators have being found.

The leaders ordering the security (Police) forces to act against the people without justification is a great concern and is creating a culture of crime. The use of power in Maldives is unjustifiable.

I am seeking justice.... UN, NGOs, Amnesty International leading governments USA, UK, Saudi Arabia, India, China, Australia seeking help form all countries not listed as well big or small. Maldives is tiny country a beautiful garland on Indian ocean. Please help me.

It was a police mutiny on the 7 February 2012. http://www.dhivehisitee.com/policemilitary/faseehtestimony/ Another side of the story.

USA – supported the current government so did INDIA – It is the Maldivians that are paying the price! We have lost total freedom yet to another “Maldivian type dictatorship” I hope to see action form these countries to take steps to do the right and honest thing.

I am pleased to report that India has given sanctuary in the Indian High Commission in Male' to Mohamed Nasheed due to continued threat to his life. The first democratically elected president is forced to seek safety by staying in Indian High Commission in his own country has much to say about the freedom in Maldives. He was removed unjustly. I fear for his life.

An elderly woman says that the current government is working hard to keep Mohamed Nasheed away form the election. With him as a candidate the current government will not get enough vote. They have to go for a coalition. She sign as says. It is better not to speak about this. People are getting beaten and killed.

I replied to her that someone must speak up. Here I am raising my concerns. I am not expecting a change over night. I am seeking assistance to see a Maldives as peaceful islands where people smiled and did not worry about their children getting killed or subjected to violence.

Most shocking is a facebook update I saw today “Boys...do not accept contracts to injure any one. Pls do not. Ultimately these are the people who will hold your hand and show you the other side of the coin. By indulging in violence, you may get a few rufiyaa [money] or shabbadi fulhi eh [I am assuming is a bottle of drink]. But remember it will also give you a hukum, more yrs to serve in prison and take ur freedom away to live a normal life. I have heard your grievance and pain, but pls violence is not a solution. And you are losing yourself in the process and those who may give you these contracts are achieving at your cost. Do not allow any one to use. Pls refrain from the temptations.” [inserted for clarification].

How are you interpreting the above plea?

So sorry to read this

Amei, I am so sorry to read about the journalist. The world needs to know what is happening in your beautiful country.

Help us to understand what we can do to support the people of Maldives, whether it is writing to our own government officials, spreading your story and the stories of Asward and others who have fallen victim to the brutality of the regime, or a more direct action. Are there online campaigns originating from Maldives that we can participate in? Use the Frontline Journal skills you learnt from VOF to share what is happening in Male and give us more background.

You might also want to apply to be a Global Voices Contributor, another platform for sharing what is happening in the Maldives. See the link below for the application form.
http://globalvoicesonline.org/for-bloggers/author-application-form/

You can also start your own petition for change on the website, change.org. If you do so, post the petition in your journal here inviting everyone to sign it and to spread the word through their networks.
http://www.change.org/start-a-petition

The world must listen and react to support the Maldivian people who face an uncertain future and live in constant fear.

I feel its time to act... Thankk you

Maldivians are at a point that I need to do as much as I can. I will apply GV and
The complexities are:

Blind followers - some of the population believe that the current government of Lead by Waheed and the previous government lead by Maumoon and his follows will bring good to the country! This is heart breaking!

Violence as a means to control the people. Police trained to follow injustice - taking orders form the current government and beating the protesters.

The protesters calling out filth acting aggressively making some people of the population fearful of MDP.

Many of the Maldivians do not understand what "true democracy" - I find it hard to define democracy these days with all the political twists.

There are 16 parties in a country for population that less than 350000 people. There is so much division among the nation a reasonable dialogue is impossible without some personal attacks. Shockingly sad.

Maldives needs a leader who can bring justice. The violence the unjust cannot be overcome easily.

Spreading my voice and others who present the Maldivian situation. Write to your government officials. I have started a petition now. Anything to bring justice to Maldives that I can do I need to do.

Thank you Janice for your thoughtfulness :-)

With love, Amei

GREAT PLEA FOR HELP, AMEI !

Hi Amei,

I am very happy and impressed that you really spoke strongly and your message was well thought out.

PLEASE people, let's help Amei bring this to the front where it cannot be ignored by governments or people.

Come on people, there's power in numbers.

Amei, I think Janice's idea about Change.org is excellent. I will sign the petition and I am sure many will. It can make a difference. As you know I notifed Amnesty International and the White House in Washington last week and I will do it again this week. As we say in America, "The squeaky wheel gets the oil".

Good job, Amei. Go for it !

I will be writing you a personal email tomorrow when I have time to do a reply justice.

I am also looking for Maldivian government official - This will be like filling a bucket with a hole.

I am hoping there will be a signature to represent each one of Maldivian Population. That is 328,536 per 2012 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maldive

Thank you Wendy- Yes! and in Maldives we say "a kid who do not cry do not get milk"

Sent emails

Hi Amei,

I have gone ahead and emailed Amnesty International in London, Amnesty International in Australia and the White House Justice Department in the USA as I said I would do. Tomorrow I will continue to write other branches of AI and the White House. .

Please keep this in our face so that we are forced to look at ourselves in the mirror and ask "What am I doing about this?"

Love ya,

GOT RESPONSE FROM AI Australia

Hi Amei,

Surprisingly I got a response from Amnesty International Australia. I forwarded it to your email because I do not know how to forward it here. At least they are on top of things. We need to make lots of noise to be sure all these services keep working for the people of Maldive. I hope lots of people from WP get on the bandwagon and help too.

Love,

Wendy

Hooray!

Due to proximity, I have no doubt Australia is on it and closely watching the situation, if for no other reason than many seeking asylum would head there.

Amei's picture

Yep good! Janice

I am not sure there would be many asylum seekers because of that nature of the Maldivian people. The people who come from Sri Lanka and other countries come through some sort organization. I am not sure if their is such group but having said that I cannot predict the future.

I feel the sadness and fear in the girl. I know what it is like to go through the court system in Maldives. It must be terrifying for the girl. I wonder how I can raise some money! just thought.

Thanks so much.

with love Amei

I was about to write this story on WP. I was studying and missed out on that.

I am still going to write on WP again. On the case of the 15 year old. The extremist are using Islamic shariah and abusing the girl further after the ordeal she has gone through. That is just another injustice....

The country is so divided. God help me to do what I can... I will write to them too as promised this weekend.

Thank you Wendy for you support.

With Love

Whatever the reason

Hi Janice and Amei,

What ever the reason I say let's make a committment to make them SO SICK AND TIRED OF US for constantly nagging them that they do something just to get rid of our messages. I'm on it. I know how to be a pest real well! Haha.

I do not think I am going to stop... I have another article for WP.

I know how to be persistent. I don't give up things unless I find something better. I am open minded and I learn from the best.

Change.org

Hi again, Amei,

I just checked out Change.org which Janice suggested. It is great and very very simple.

I belong to it actually. What they do is email everyone on their mailing list (which is extensive) so we get all these petitions to sign in our emails. In fact I got so many, I stopped having them send them. They put the cause right out there in all member's faces. And the members are all people who like signing petitions for things they believe in. So, when you have time that may be a viable option. I will help with this or anything if you need me.

You're doing a great job. Go get them, tiger (and I'm not talking Pi) !

Love and Ubuntu(I am who I am because of who we are together),

Hi Wendy :-)

How are you. I am happy to share that the young journalist is giving a fight and is recovery. I am so thankful. I hope people keep signing the petition.

Some Maldivian are questioning my motive for my action. It wonder what is my motive too. Why am I setting my self in a position that I may not be welcomed in my birth country. Let say I am on a boat with a Bengali Tiger :-)

All good with me and hope all good with you too.
With love
Amei
