2013 here I am!

Dear Friends and members of WP.

I was not here to wish you Happy New Year at the very beginning. It is always, better late than never :-)

Tonight, it is already past 10:20pm here in Australia. I know if I said to me write a post tomorrow it can take for ever. Tomorrow is a never ending day.

I hope all of your had a great ending with Christmas cheers and had a brilliant start to 2013. I wish each and everyone of you on this forum a very blessed and a successful year ahead. I hope all of you smile and laugh, enjoy and celebrate and have fun living a blessed life.

The USA President Obama has got a second chance to serve his country and I do hope he makes the right decisions. His decisions not only only impact the USA citizens but citizens around the world. I hope he is more thoughtful in his decisions and has the courage to stand for the right deeds. May god bless him and USA and the world.

Australia - where I live. The head of Australia Julia has much challenges ahead of her. The refugees, immigrants and the citizens, tax, unemployment, homeless and education and many more. I hope she takes the right decisions by the her people. May God bless Australians.

The Maldives - where I was born. The political situation is out of hand. The democracy has collapsed. The division of the country among the people has created the worst kind of environment for people to live and kinds to grow. No work for the youth. Mr Gayoom who was the president of Maldives for 30 years still want to be back. He has created such loyalty among the large group of Maldivians. People like Gasim (Buruma) has also created people who are loyal to him regardless what they do. Maldivians a population of about than 300,000.00 people are in denial. I do wish the countries who where involved in the Maldives like UK and USA would seek thr truth without making bias decisions that further cripples the situation in Maldives.

There is so much to express and I can express my feelings, thoughts and emotions here. Talk without action is not worth enough. I take this opportunity to wish all Maldivian a better future. I hope that 2013 elections will be conducted fairly. If Mohamed W H M is character is similar to M A Gayoom then it is unlikely. Let me tell you now that I remember mentioning elections!

It was during the time of Gayooms my secret vote was not anymore secret after the vote. I was encouraged by the Sh. Komandoo leaders that it would be appreciated that if I voted for Gayoom. The key purpose of the leaders was to get 100% for Gayoom to be in his favour. They walked with me up to the ballot and would have got inside to check if I did not ask for my rights to vote in confidentiality.

It is going to be a painful situation in Maldives. I fear for Maldivians. I had to express myself and upload on the WWW to make my self better :-)

2012 has been a great year from me and I am looking forward to a grand 2013. I am grateful at least my personal life is on tops. Wish you all a wonderful 2013

HAPPY 2013

With love
Amei

Your Article

Dear Amei,

What a classy classy article. And so revealing about you the person. If I were in your shoes I would be feeling worry, fear and helplessness. It must be so hard. Knowing what you know, having been through what you have been through and watching with the intuitiveness of what will probably happen in Maldives. I applaud you for your candidness. You have experienced things in Maldives that many of us have not so we cannot possibly understand on the level you do. But thank you for making us aware. I, too, wish there were something I could do because I agree with you, actions speak louder than words.

I was quite taken by what you went through when you went to vote. I cannot even imagine how horrible that must have been to you and again, I applaud you for having the courage to speak up about going into the voting booth alone. That was a risk I imagine. But you are a courageous and gutsy person. Wow!

The good news is that YOU had a good 2012. You have struggled to get yourself to this point and again should be applauded. I hope 2013 is a fabulous year for you. While we all deserve this, you have earned it. Sometimes when we can not help on a grand level, working on ourselves to be a better person and do something on a small level, actually sends the needed energy into the universe and you really are making a difference in a bigger way. Especially if many of us are doing this.

Amnesty International might be a very good resource for you to bring attention to Maldives in a way that they can make it a cause to help. They do such things and they make a difference when you think nobody can. I too pray that President Obama shows a stronger self these 4 years. The world needs this.

Again, thank you for your article.

Thanks Wendy.

Yep. I bet I was scared but probably did even realise the risk of it at the time. Of course, until I got a call asking "Was it you?' The atoll did not get 100% because of that 'someone' who voted against...

I just saw an error in this sentence- "The division of the country among the people has created the worst kind of environment for people to live and kinds to grow." I will have to amend it later... Now I have to rush to work.

I do hope Obama does some substantial work. Amnesty International already are aware - may be they need a new perspective!

Thanks for taking time to read and comment :-)

Love you
Amei

Reminder

Yes, Amei I think Amnesty International needs a new perspective on Maldives. Besides, I have learned that people have to be reminded, reminded, reminded over and over again. They forget. We have an expression here "The squeaky wheel gets the oil". I think the issue has to be kept IN THEIR FACE as they have thousands of causes probably seeking them. I realize one person cannot do it all.

International aid for Mali

Hi Amei,

I just saw where the USA and Italy are giving aid to Mali. Let's hope other countries will follow suit, all of our countries working together to help your mother home.

It is MALE' not Mali

Hi Wendy,

It is great that USA & Italy are giving aid to Mali. My home mother land is MALDIVES and Male' is the capital island (Capital City) in this islands nation - a bit confusing. Even the post at times goes to Mali before it reaches Male'.

So lets see some aid will at times reach Male' too.

An idyllic country in trouble

Amie,
Thank you for drawing attention to the strife in your beautiful country and the consequences for your fellow Maldivians. Not only has Amnesty International expressed concerns about the human rights abuses at the hands of the present and former governments but Reporters without Borders is greatly concerned about the threats to Maldivian journalists and media since the events of 7 February, when Mohamed Nasheed was replaced as president.

I fear that without press freedom, it will be even more difficult for news of what is happening on the ground to get out. The Committee to Protect Journalists also says that press freedom is deteriorating under Hassan with the rise of partisan political strife and religious conservatism. With reports of police brutality against journalists amid political chaos, I am glad that you are in Australia where you can write safely about your concerns for your country.

Please keep us posted on what you hear and do not give up on hope. The more people who hear about what is happening, the more pressure can be placed on their own governments to take a stand. In the meantime, continue to write and one day, I hope to hear that your country has returned to being a haven of peace and tranquility.

Best wishes,
Janice

Thank you Janice

I am pleased to get this comment.

I am really concerned for the people living in Male'. The place is getting heated with elections to be held this year. Some facebook updates gives glimps of the situation in Maldives. I feel uncomfortable and makes me wonder what I can do to help the people from far. Anyone who has an opinion about the current situation in the Maldives in NOT FREE.

(hrs ago today of facebook)
"The nation is on a roll...the tempo is quickening...the inevitable consequence is nearing...expect the unexpected!!! :)"

"Two Principals and a Lecturer, victims of Police animals of Maldives 15th Feb 2013. Education is being targeted by the Coup Government of Waheed"

There is a large group of the population that believs that the current govenrment gained power by a coup - this is not what CONI (Commission of the National Inquiry - address the change of power on 7 Feb 12)) report sates. People are very divided and no one trust the other. In my opinion the report does not reflect the truth. Sadly, In my opinion it has been twisted to the favour of the current government.

I feel Maldives is now tasting a regime that is harsh and brutal. Some of Nasheed's actions was not favourable. I personally feel there is a power stuggle with the families rather than an interest to save a nation. (Gosh! am I saying this)

I think it is dillusional to hope that Maldives will return to peace and tranquility in the near future. Realistically I fear for the worst. There is now increased violence.

"People arrested from among the rally were tortured" ~ a Police officer (an update 3hrs ago on facebook)

I also heard there is a women who has been beated and now in the hospital (ICU) fighting for her life. Further, one of the members, Mr Ahmed Saeed (Gaha) his facebook update today "Am baaaack ... from Dhoonidhoo (jail island) still condemning the coup, still demonstrating" People are concerend for his safety. "Any news of Gahaa Saeed?" - a facebook update"

I am concerend for his safety as he is setting an example to uphold truth.

I hope and pray we have an strong independed leader without any affliation to the current parties. The systems within the parties are complex with blood ties. Even the western so called true democratic coutries do not set a good example. I am really concerened where we are heading!

I hope Amnesty International hear and listen to my voice. I am not affilated with any parties and I support what right and is best for the people.

I can only hope and have faith in the God. Yes, I am glad I am in Australia too.

Once again Thank you
Amei

Scary

Hi Amei,

What you wrote and how you wrote it is chilling. I want to help but don't know how. This afternoon I will write a letter to Amesty International. I am sure they have received many letters but they are known for helping and they do often make a difference. I will also write to President Obama about this. Again, I know he has heard it but if enough of us "keep in their face" as we say in America, at least the situation will be noticed more and they will know epople all over care and are not putting up with the status quo. Thre is power in numbers.

Love and ubuntu (I am who I am because of who we are together).

Thank you for your voice.

Rosa Parks

Amei,

I ahve just been watching on TV a Book reviewer talking about the actions of Rosa Parks during the civil rights movement for women. She was feisty, did the unusual, was not scared but forged ahead and she reminds me of how mucy power we women can have, especially when we band together. Thanks to her and Martin LUther King, Jr. and others blacks are free and women are not tortured any longer. I beleive she was the only woman involved in all this.

You know that expression "It takes a village. . . " Well, maybe we should say "It takes a WOMAN !" Haha.

Love and ubuntu, Wendy

"Gosh am I saying this?

I read your response to Janice with interest. When you gave your opinion about the families and then said (Gosh, am I saying this?) that just tells me how suppressed you must have been for so many years. While your comments to her were terrifying and chilling I learned a lot.

Right now, as we speak I am writing a letter to Obama via email. I got the email address. It may not help but I wanted you to know I care and will try.

Love,

I DID IT !

Hi Amei,

I DID IT !

I wrote an email letter to the President of the United States, Barack Obama, asking him to take steps for human right and justice in Male' and for the Maldavians. I did it I did it. I asked for a reply which will be electronic I am sure but the point is that there is power in numbers. Maybe you could write a short article begging people to write also to Obama or someone.

This afternoon I will write to Amnesty International.

I feel good !

Love and ubuntu (I am who I am because of who we are together).

I have notified Amnesty International

Hi Amei,

I have just written an email to Amnesty Internation (who already of course know about the situation in your home country) but I wanted to write a strong case to remind them to continue working to help, to bring it to the front for all of us common people to know about and do something. I am just one person, but who knows. If enough of us would write, change could happen.

Love and ubuntu,

Thanks Wendy

Scary! it is... but that is how some Maldivians are going through.

I am hope full. I hope there would be a woman candidate for this years election. I am not a politician and my dual citizenship would not allow :-) It will be crazy! this has been on and off my thoughts. I am a woman and since 2008 we have the opportunity to become a leader!

I don't know may be I should write to Obama & Julia as well. It will be extremely scary, exciting, demanding and fulfilling.... I feel I am ready for a bigger challenge! With God's blessing...
