Introducing myself and my journal: Cambodia, Education, Volunteers, and Chaos
About Me:
I moved to Cambodia in 2005 after organizing a fundraising bike-ride through Cambodia. Our organization, PEPY, funds educational development programs in rural Cambodia and is funded through volunteer and adventure tours. I am skeptical of both the development and volunteer tourism industries, trying to go "better" in areas where I see a lot of harm being done, still making mistakes, and trying to decide if "better" is good enough.
My Passions:
education, traveling, kite surfing
My Challenges:
patience, single-tasking, only 24 hours in a day
My Vision for the Future:
a world-aware generation who their neighbors, know the value of the food and the products they buy and where they come from, and have a geniune interest in those who are dissimilar from them
My Areas of Expertise:
sharing my passions for a project with others

Daniel,
I came across a post about Geotourism at Ashoka's Changemakers that Pepyride might be interested.
Ashoka’s Changemakers, in partnership with the National Geographic Society, have launched an exciting online competition entitled “Geotourism Challenge 2009: Power of Place – Sustaining Future Destinations” (http://changemakers.net/en-us/competition/geotourism).
Our aim is to to search for global innovative ideas in tourism that celebrate the distinct destinations of the world by honoring culture, cherishing history and enhancing the environment.
Submit your entry by May 20, 2009 at www.changemakers.net to take advantage of the funding opportunities and global exposure, while contributing to the next big change!
