Is sterilizaton the solution for HIV/AIDS women

HIV positive women are always advised to use a condom each time they have sex, in order to prevent themselves from HIV refections, pregnancies and STIs. When consulted whether condoms are 100% safe, most HIV positive women had this to say:

My partner and i never wanted to have any more children due to our status and the economic hardships. so we always used condoms each time we had sex.
One day without our knowledge, the condom busted during the act and few weeks later i discovered that i was pregnant. I now have a child and it is very difficult for us to take care of him, and i had to stop work in order to breastfed him for six months exclusively. but after six months i don't think, we will manage to buy formula milk for our baby as it is very expensive for us.

Another woman

I am HIV positive woman and have been falling pregnant every after two years,My health is very complicated as i have been having one pregnant after another,
my husband refuse to use condoms especially when he is drank, and threatens to go for other women if i keep on insisting that we use condoms. We have many children and i can't afford to take care of them if he leaves me for another woman.

If these women have difficult using condoms, is sterilization an option to solve their problems?

Voluntary or mandatory?

Dando,

As always you bring up insightful questions. In your question, is sterilization mandatory or voluntary? Is this surgery available in Kenya? I just read somewhere else on the site about reproductive rights... I'll try and find it and cross post it here.

Dando, thank you for sharing

Dando, thank you for sharing this important question with the community. I echo Jennifer's sentiment about whether or not the procedure is voluntary or mandatory. I hope someone on the site can come up with an answer to your question and support you.

Sending my love to you across the oceans,
Corine

Thank you

Dear Dando,

Thank you, for contacting world pulse. I think sterilization is not the solution to protect your self from being infected with HIV or any other infection. Only condoms are 100% safe.
About the baby yes powder milk is very expensive to every body with economic hardship.

Look around where you live there are many organizations helping people to get back in track by giving them education and support they need to fight poverty in their communities

Dear another Woman,

Thank you for contacting the world pulse. Sorry because you have health problem I think you should go for sterilization, before that talk with your husband first.
The United States of America government organizations, businesses men and women have worked very hard to introduce cheap medicine to Africa.
Get in touch with hospital, also that you and your husband can get help.
Look around where you live there are many organizations helping people to get back in track by giving them education and support they need. Due to your health problem it is not possible for you to start any of my suggestion above. But I think it’s good to get in touch with them and tell them what kind of help you would prefer.

Yours Sincerely
