Introducing myself and my journal: throughthelens
About Me:
I created the crossing borders project to help provide tools to generate voice and stories to share with the rest of the world. I love my work, it is voluntary and self funded so the amount of work that I do with it is limited. Being a woman in the world is not easy, I have lived in the Middle East and in Italy where in both places the woman in the "underdog" and has their place in society. They are not taken seriously regarding their voice and intellect.
I was also a war photojournalist, a women in a man's world. One cannot image the extra amount of work that I had to do to be taken seriously in my profession. You would not believe the comments that I would get thrown at me from other photojournalist...men from all over the world...even Americans.
My Passions:
photography
My Challenges:
survival
My Vision for the Future:
helping to generate voices
My Areas of Expertise:
visibility, communications, photography, community development
