Peace and security constitute two key factors in durable development. No country in the world can plan to emerge while there is instability. The case of the Oriental part of the DRC exceeds all understanding. Not one day passes without one speaking of massacres, pillages, and flagrant human rights violations. The people living in that part of the country suffer ordeals without precedence. The most recent cases are those of the attendant of Dr. Denis Mukwege, medical director of the Panzi hospital, attacked Thursday last week at his home located on Muhumba Avenue in the town of Ibanda. Like the fate of his attendant, his cook was shot while he himself had just narrowly escaped gunshots in his direction. During this time, one of the assailants had been hit by a car, found the next day during the chaos at Bugabo in the town of Kadutu. That situation happened and then his family left Bukavu for another destination. There are many other cases to bemoan, notably the burial of three preachers of the Catholic diocese of Beni/Mbau in the neighboring province of North-Kivu. Yet in the town of Bukavu, during the same week, a dead body was just picked up from the gutter. Another young man by the name of Douglas was just shot while he was coming back home around 8 pm, and there are many other cases to bemoan. Moreover, the Archdiocese of Bukavu commemorated the October 29th assassination of his pastor, the Archbishop Christophe Munzihirwa, assassinated in 1996 while he was playing a role as important to man as to God- healing his church in particular and in general the population of South-Kivu.

We decry this instability, which leads ipso facto to the cutting of heads and the homicides that include the untimely violations of Human Rights.

We think that this time, the international community is not going to continue to remain insensible while facing the distress of an entire country impelled to suffer. To this effect, we ask an urgent intervention from the international community so that the insecurity can be mastered and that both national and international justices do their jobs.

Salut

Salut Anuarite,

Insecurity is a challange for all

Anuarite,

You are so right - no country can emerge or witness a prosperous life while its nation is inflicted by the severe pain of insecurity and instability. I feel the horror that you do, I feel the panic that you do, I feel the shivering in my body resulting from an insecure environment that you and your people do. Security, or a peaceful life, is one of our most basic rights that follows self-actualization when it is well met. It's always good to share such stories. We shouldn't hide the atrocities and blatant violations of our country or community - that only augments our agony. But, we must raise our voice to the international community and ask for support and attention which is what you are doing here.

Thank you,

Ali Shahidy

Hope

I can't even imagine the difficulty of living in a situation such as yours, and my heart goes out to you, having to live in such instability, fear, and frustration with the injustice of it all. Thank you for sharing your experience, and please don't lose hope, please continue sharing your stories so the awareness of the situation may increase and the international community feels the pressure to assist your nation. Slowly but surely change is happening; with enough eloquent voices like yours, the world will have to listen, and action will be taken.

Sincerely,
Nicole
