Nous sommes attristés d'apprendre la récente attaque et tentative d'assassinat du Dr Denis Mukwege, chirurgien de renom mondial et directeur de l'hôpital de Panzi dans l'Est du Congo Province du Sud Kivu. Le Dr Mukwege est un champion pour les femmes victimes de violences sexuelles et a traité plus de 30.000 femmes dans une région où le viol est systématiquement utilisé comme arme de guerre.

Médecins pour les droits de l'homme a signalé que, hier, quatre hommes armés sont entrés chez le docteur Mukwege, en son absence et a tenu plusieurs membres de la famille au bout du fusil. Dès son arrivée, ils l'ont forcé hors de sa voiture, tirant et en tuant un garde de sécurité qui tentait de s'interposer. Le Dr Mukwege esquivé quand les hommes armés ont tiré des coups vers lui, avant de repartir dans sa voiture, qui a été retrouvé abandonné peu de temps après.

We are saddened to learn of the recent attack and attempted murder to Dr. Denis Mukwege, world-renowned surgeon and director of Panzi Hospital in the Eastern Congo South Kivu Province. Dr. Mukwege is a champion for women victims of sexual violence and has treated more than 30,000 women in a region where rape is used systematically as a weapon of war.

Doctors for Human Rights reported that yesterday, four armed men entered the home Mukwege in his absence and had several family members at gunpoint. Upon arrival, they forced him out of his car, shooting and killing a security guard who tried to intervene. Dr. Mukwege dodged when gunmen fired at him, before returning to his car, which was found abandoned shortly after.
