My name is Lukogo Cirimwanmi Grace and I’m from Congo, precisely from South Kivu. Here there was a woman from a village with children and a husband. One day the interhamwe came in the village, they entered in the house of this woman, they raped her and after that they put salt into her sex. In the end they killed the children and the husband. As for today she’s like a crazy person. It’s a shame here in the South Kivu.
Thanks

Sad for South Kivu

Hello Lukogo Cirimwanmi Grace. It's so sad that the Interhamwe have crossed the border into Congo and are attacking innocent people. It's hard to imagine the hatred and evil that fills their hearts. I hope the Interhamwe are no longer present in South Kivu. Otherwise, there must be constant fear. I pray for the village woman you wrote about and hope her strength and sanity can be restored after the horrible things that were done to her.

Peace and blessings to you and other Congolese.

Truly sad

This story really brought a tear to my eye. In the West, we often forget that the interhamwe's effect goes beyond Rwanda. Your account of this terrible tragedy illustrates the lasting effects of violence. It would be great if you could provide more details, such as when this happened.

Unbelievable Cruelty

This story made me wonder what in the world transforms some human beings into monsters and beasts? The actions of the interhamwe against this innocent woman and her family is cruel beyond any words I could use to describe it. I am so saddened to think that any person could perpetrate this level of violence against any other person. Anyone who can kill has no soul especially when it comes to children. The worst thing about this story is that they tortured this woman twice by raping her then putting salt in her female parts to cause untold pain and agony. The final stab to her heart was killing her husband and family. In similar cases during the Liberian war, where family members were often killed in the presence of their spouses, kids or relatives they have said they wished that they had been killed too. Unfortunately, as insane as it may sound, I understand where they are coming from as it may have been humane to die with your family and more merciful than to continue to live and have to re-live the horror, pain and nightmare already suffered by the surviving victim/victims. I pray for peace and harmony for you Lukogo Cirimwanmi Grace, for the people of Congo and especially those of you from South Kivu. My special prayers go up for this tortured woman and I pray that she finds peace and solace in her life.

Terrible

Dear Grace,
This is a very sad story. the violence that is happening there is unimaginable. I feel so sorry for that woman. Are there ngos in South Kivu that can assist this woman or women in similar situation either by counselling them or providing them with financial assistance or even helping them seek asyslum in other countries. This is a very serious case because a women like that can commit suicide because she has nothing to lose. My prayers are with you and all the women who are being tortured in South Kivu and DRC Congo

Horrific

Thank you Lukogo Cirimwanmi Grace for sharing this horrific story. My first thought when I read it was, "She's not crazy. She's a survivor!" She may be hurt, traumatized and lonely, but she's not broken. She is amazing. The interhamwe may have taken her family, but they have not taken her humanity. Please continue to stay strong and raise your voice until the rest of the world wakes up and listens.
