Mother and daughter stripped and tortured by own brothers

01.JPG

I got to know about this brutal act via an Email.

M. Kaliammaal from Thoothukudi demands CBI probe.

Kaliammal had married her daughter Guru Eswari to her own brother Murugan. The couple have 2 children. Murugan works in Military as “lans nayak”. Her daughter Guru Eswari is an extremely pretty looking girl and that has caused her enough trouble. Murugan was always suspicious, so he was not comfortable leaving her alone during his out station travel. Whenever he comes to his house for holiday he would shave Eswari’s head comletely and ensure that she does not look pretty. Eswari did not share this with Kaliammal, instead she managed to say that its offering to GOD for the well being of her ‘Maama’ (Husband). Later the news had leaked out, Eswari got separated and lived sepeartely for some time.

Again she united with him after some panchayats. Eswari had been staying with her grand mother (Kaliammal’s mother). One day another brother of Kaliammal (i.e Murugan’s brother) visited this house and was attracted towards Eswari. He tried Molesting her. Eswari opposed to it and also told her grand mother. The grand mother does not like Eswari so she ignored it. The brother had told her Husband that Eswari was attracted towards him and she invited him to Bed.

Already suspicious character Murugan got wild, both the brothers had stripped Eswari, pushed her on a table, tied her hands & legs. They inserted a powder made of Salt, Ash, Chilly Powder and Chunar. They heated an Iron rod and inserted that into her vagina and also tortured with that all over her body. They had shut her mouth with pieces of cloth.

Later they called Kaliammal and told her that her pampering had spoiled Eswari and called her to sign an agreement. When she came down, they repeated the same brutal act on her. She was after-all their sister. They switched on F.M radio to cover the noise. The whole scene was witness by their mother. (Mother of all 3). Kaliammal fainted.

Later when she woke up there was no body and hence she managed to escape and thought of committing suicide. But she wanted to teach lesson to those animals. The neighbours could not recognise her, they thought she was mad. One of her friend vasanthi recognised her and offered help. She shouted to offer help for her daughter who was inside the house. Then many people ran into the house and checked. My daughter was fighting for life. If I had not escaped they would have killed both of them. Both the brothers have escaped. They tried for compromise through various People. But Kaliammal and Eswari did not give up. Now they are threatening to kill them. They are sending out messages through another brother Ganesan saying that they will kill her son Kanagavel.

With a help of a lawyer brothers are filing false cases on them. Already there are about 7 cases filed on Kaliammaal and Eswari on account of petty things. She doubts that the local police is also on the brother’s side. The brothers have already kidnapped two grandsons. There are dangers to the two women’s life and Police is not taking any action against the brothers.

Hence She wants CBI investigation.

It is terrifying to realize

It is terrifying to realize that the systems we entrust to deliver justice can side with sadistic criminals and leave innocent victims with no one to turn to. I hope desperately that Kaliammal and Eswari have a place of safety and comfort they can go to, that they find justice and protection, and that they know that there are people on the other side of the world thinking of them, admiring their strength, and praying for an end to their nightmare.

Unspoken Voices

The best that can be done is to SHARE this story as you've done, not just here, but on any blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc. The voice not heard is the voice unspoken. Speak the story to all that will listen; it only takes ONE ear to change fate. It is my understanding that you don't know these women personally; and I must say my "google" translator left a few words to remain a mystery, but you've done the right thing posting this email. It is my hope that all who read this story will share it as you have done and HOPEFULLY their voices will be heard by the right person, or by enough people who are brave enough to stand up to the silent atrocities that are aloud in regards to women's rights.

PERFECT!

Please keep us posted on the situation; my heart is heavy and I'm hoping for the best. It relieves me to know you have made psychiatric care available; it's so important for these women to know that regardless of the laws, they are NOT AT fault for what has happened to them. It's so easy for the victim to be made the guilty! ONE more reason why educating women worldwide in HUMAN rights is so important. Bless you for the work you are doing Kotravai!!!

UNTINKABLE BRUTALITY

This act of brutality within the family can only happen among wild animals, drug-influenced individuals, and mentally deranged patients. I cannot fathom why the INSTINCT TO CARE FOR AND PROTECT THE FAMILY are absent in Eswani's brothers. They must be stopped and punished accordingly ASAP!

On the flip side, I feel proud of Eswani and her mother. All odds are against them but they are still alive. I just hope that their survival would not be in vain. May someone or an organization help them recover fully from this sad experience. For those who have already helpYou too have ed, a million thanks to you. My special gratitude goes to Kotravai for sharing the story. Thank, thank, thank you!

How accurate of a response

How accurate of a response Lydia! It's easy for those who live in such violence day in and day out to be "numb" to it; or worse yet, just accept it as their fate. It's women like you from other cultures/countries that not only speak out but shout "THIS IS NOT OK" that gives others encouragement and momentum! Sometimes a very small circle of confidence is all we need to keep going; thank you for that:) I remember thinking as a young girl growing up in the U.S. that even though women's rights APPEARED to be present, I would have boundaries on what I could achieve as an adult. I knew I'd never be able to lead a church (as a pastor/priest/reverend), I'd never be able to be a CEO (only a secretary); I saw roadblocks EVERYWHERE because that was the atmosphere in which I grew up in (false at that). There are so many things I've overcome, that women around me have overcome in the short 20 years that I've been in the work force in America. I guess what I'm saying is DON'T accept the world around you as your fate; EVERYTHING can be changed!!!

Strength and perseverance

I am so impressed by the exposure this heart-wrenching story has gotten already. Kotravi, your voice is already changing the lives of Kaliammal and Eswari. Despite their suffering, they are now receiving the help they need to recover, and at the same time, their story is being heard by women around the world. You are demonstrating with your actions that women can be heard, and that their voices have the ability to mobilize change. I applaud you for sharing, and my thoughts are with Kaliammal and Eswari as they continue to show their strength and perseverance.

Kotravai, As Rebecca said you

Kotravai,

As Rebecca said you need to share this story everywhere. Contact human rights organizations in the country and overseas; and World Pulse may also help to start a campaign.

Thank you to let us know what we can do. Let me know how I can help.
Enough is enough. The word "violence" cannot illustrate what you described in this story.

And there is no alternative for these trapped women. I believe you, the police will not help at all.

reply

Thanks Brianna.

Hi Kadida,

As I mentioned earlier... The news was shared on many platforms. It was out in the media too, but the National Commission for Women etc hardly respond here.

May be I will take it to the overseas network further.

AIDWA & myself are discussing the next level of protest.
