Gearing up for International Women's Day

Next month we'll be celebrating International Women's Day. The International Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPC) will be launching its 7th edition of the report "Missing the Target" which analyses access to treatment for people living with HIV in selected countries. This forthcoming edition is particularly interesting because it focuses on Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) and access to treatment for women. It will be launched on International Women's Day, so that is something to look forward to. Zimbabwe is one of the countries of focus, along with Argentina, Cambodia, Moldova, Morocco and Uganda. Hopefully the findings will feed into our advocacy work because beyond looking at antiretroval treatment, the greater focus is on making health systems work for women and children. As one of the researchers, I am particularly excited about this report and as a woman, I certainly look forward to International Women's Day.

It would really be interesting to know what is being planned in different countries and share ideas on how we can capitalise on this important day and keep women's issues on our governments' agendas beyond the annual events set aside for the day.

International Womens Day

Hi Matilda,

Thank you for sharing the news regarding ITPC's release of the "Missing the Target" report. I hope that this awareness will bring forth a greater effort for education, prevention and treatment for HIV.

Have you seen the International Women's Day website? http://www.internationalwomensday.com/
Here you can search for and find events listed by country.

Here in Portland, Oregon there is a concert with female musicians as well as workshops to educate women in the area on subjects of health, craft making, and combating domestic abuse.

I too am interested to hear about what other women around the world are doing to celebrate this great day.

Warm regards,
Jade
