According to what we see in the different neighborhoods and streets in the whole province of South Kivu, there are a large number of abandoned children since women have multiple jobs and have to perform numerous duties. The most affected children are between 3 and 5 years old. To solve this situation, parent and community awareness is very important so they understand the need of enrolling their children in the kindergarten or have them in community spaces managed by community members and parents. Also, we ask people of good faith to realize about this situation so everyone can help to accomplish this protection task.

Bonjour Sifa Chantal, Merci

Bonjour Sifa Chantal,

Unattended Children

Dear Sifa,

You describe a heartbreaking situation: young children aged 3-5 left to fend for themselves. How can a country progress if its children are not cared for and educated?

The first step is to bring attention to the problem. You have done so. Congratulations.

Your Sister in the United States,

Jan Askin
