Girls Talk program for adolescent girls

Be informed be creative, be You

Girls talk is an empowering program for adolescent girls to develop self-esteem and confidence. The program has been held since 01.02.2012 by Women's Resource Center, Armenia.

The Girls talk program is a safe place for young women to connect with each other , share their experiences and talk about issues that concerns them. This program hels young women to develop self-awarenes, coping strategies and critical thinkingthrough artistic, fun and recreational activities.

Girls talk encompasses external and internal assets.

Among the external assets, Girl Talk adresses support, empowerment, boundaries and expectations, and constructive use of time. The girls in the program have an opportunity to learn from caring adults in their school or community and are exposed to different learning mediums, including physical and the artistic. The participants also learn from each other and from connections that empower them to face challenges in their lives.

The Girls talk program also builds girls' capacity to develop more internal assets.Specificially, positive identity is greatly boosted by participating in the program. The program increases girls' abilities to focus on their own personal power, self-esteem and sence of purpose. At the end of program, the facilitators encourage the participants to think about having a positive view of theirb personal future.

Each Girls Talk session includes the following components:

a group discussion

an activity (artistic or physical)

journal writing

The theme that emerged from this process was the need for a safe space where girls could be themselves and not have to deal with the unrelenting pressures of adolescence and daily life. The girls stressed the need for a suppoertive environment in which they could share their feelings with other girls without fear of negative commnets or ridicule.

Girls Talk program is not limited only with training course itself, there are cultural and entertain activities organized for adolescent girls (visiting galleries, museums, interactive events).

The third training group has already begun working.

Some events are organized with effort and enthusiasm of both groups, such as public event on international day of children's rights, lesson on video shooting - to help girls earn some practical skills to shoot videos on the topics of their interest and worries. as well as some cultural events .

The program itself and the events mentioned above are free of charge, and supposed to be held for adolescent girls in the age of 13-17.

courage !

Bon travail.
