Sanitation of Urban Markets

I am the president of the urban market town of BAGIRA. In our markets, the mothers do the clean-up twice a week. They sweep, clean the gutters, and remove the weed around the city hangars. Our city does not have a public dump, the members of the committee do the evacuation of waste. We are looking to get a partnership with NGOs dealing with satination eg, RED CROSS that one day took care of it. Sometimes we even negotiate with growersduring the dry season to come and take the waste. Sometimes we lack the means of transport, but the environmental services are interested to clean the town. Throughout the roads, there are pirates markets with fake merchanidse. Nobody takes care of it. They even ignore who make the sacrifice for communal clean up while the authorities are passing through. Our market is comprised of 80 women.

Thank you for sharing your organization with us. The work you do is very difficult, not just labor intensive but also very difficult. Do you have a local government who is affiliated with a NGO that operates out of your country? You have a large group of women and large enough organization. Also try contacting www.unpd.org they may be able to assist.

Kind Regards,

I hope World Pulse will help you connect with good partners to address your needs. Thank you for writing about an issue that often is overlooked, but is so important to the well-being of everyone in your community.

Thank you

Sanitation is so important for health, well-being and environment, and markets can be so important for women. Thank you for your efforts, for mentioning these aspects and for looking for sustainable solutions.
