Women as Object of all time threat

Dear Friends,

Hindu dated 13.7.2012 has published a news about Ms. Sonali Mukherjee who was sexually harassed by her neighbours and affected by the acid attack by them. Her face is severely damaged and she has lost her eyesight & she is now partially deaf. She has been appealing to the Government of New Delhi for help and been running from pillar to post. Now she is also receiving threats from the People attacked her, post their release from jail.

She demands help or permission for EUTHANASIA.

reading the above news in Hindu, MASES immediately got into action by publishing the news on its blog & via social Media and took it to the notice of more People.

Reading about the injustice done to Sonali, I was highly annoyed and wanted to do what best can MASES do to appeal to People for help. We posted about the issue on MASES blog on 12th July and wrote letters to Commissioner of Police Delhi, Chief Minister Delhi, AIDWA, National Commission for Women, Ministry of Women and Child Development. We also approached few Human Rights Organization and NGOs seeking letter of Support and to urge the Ministries & authorities to intervene.

Following this Federation for People's Rights, Puducherry had issued a letter expressing Solidarity and they also faxed letters to Prime Minister, Chief Minister of Jharkand and Chief Minister of Delhi.

MASES has approached a Women NGO for further action & protests.

Meanwhile on 17th July the Commisioner of Police, New Delhi has replied acknowledging the mail sent by MASES and has forwarded to Joint Commissioner. The mail demands for action against People threatening you again.

However appeals are made via M.A.S.E.S for further support and lending monetary help . Sonali's appeal has been published in that.

Heartbreaking

Thank you so much for sharing this story. My heart is just breaking as I read this and look at Sonali's picture and read her letter. I am also sick that these men could do this to someone - and then be set free! I am grateful that Sonali has people like you who are able to share her story and try to help her.
In your article, can you talk a little bit about what MASES is - or at least give the full name in the beginning? I was a little confused about who/what MASES is. Also, the Facebook link doesn't work.
Please continue to speak out for women who need a voice!

Injustice

Thank you for sharing this story about Sonali. It brought tears to my eyes when I read it. I can't believe that these men are living free and a regular life when she has been inprisoned by her pain and disfigurement. What you are doing is heroic, by spreading this story and sharing the links you are helping to hopefully bring justice to her. Tell Sonali that she is very brave, very strong. She must keep fighting and prove to these men that they have not taken her spirit. What they have done is horrible but she must not let them win.

Courage for Sonali

Dear Kotravai,
I've been reading about Sonali in the news. Thank you for keeping her story on the forefront and for your continued support of her and her cause. I can only imagine how painful and lonely it must be for her, and yet she now has friends all over the world who think of and pray for her every day.

So, I'm curious: Do you know why acid is so readily available for purchase over the counter? One story I'd read in The Guardian mentioned some efforts to curb its availability, but didn't mention why it is available to begin with.

I want to congratulate you for the work MASES is doing and encourage you to keep at it. It is important and hard work, and the victories many and rewarding. We have a long way to go until we live in a world where attacks like Sonali's no longer happen!

Stay strong!

Outrageous

Thank you so much for highlighting the plight of Sonali as she continues to fight getting the justice she so rightly deserves Kotravai. Many thanks to M.A.S.E.S as well. It is extremely outrageous that the three men who carried out this horrific act of terrorism are running free while Sonali is trapped in her private hell. It is so sad that she is contemplating taking her life! Why should this beautiful young woman feel so hopeless and helpless that she would rather die than live when she is entitled to living her life? Even though it is a terrible thing that was done to her and can never bring her back to how she once looked as far as physical attributes are concerned, she is still nonetheless a beautiful woman on the inside. Again, she can never look the same way on the outside as she did before this acid was poured over her causing her unspeakable pain and horror but, it will give her some sense of closure if indeed these animals that caused her injuries are locked up forever. I call them "animals" because that is what they are if they can do this to another human being. It has been way too long on her sojourn for justice and I hope that this beautiful lady gets the result she deserves which has been denied her thus far.
