ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY

Qu'est ce qui est a la base de cette situation ;
Pour arriver a changer l'Etat de la situation; nous souhaiterions mener les activites suivantes ;

Recently, climatic changes are affecting the East part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. These changes are seen in either heavy or no rainfall during the rainy season and irregularities are felt either during the rainy or dry season characterized by persisting dry seasons with much cold in the morning and heat during the day.
The impacts are felt in the cultural calender, with low production rates, dryness, lack of clean water caused by acute dryness of the tubes.
This situation is also felt in the farming sector in the sense that dryness does not favor the growth of green leaves
Low production favor famine and food insecurity
What is the cause of this situation?
The North and South of the Kivu provinces has welcome refugees from neighboring countries, these refugees lived in camps which had their heat from fire wood. Thus causing deforestation.
The 1996 and 1998 so called liberation wars led to population migration. The cause of several looting of natural resources as well as social problems for the population in search of safe havens.
From what follows, temperature raise at the global as well as the local level led to more gas as a result of deforestation, because since then, charcoal is now a source of revenue for several families. Meanwhile, no efforts are put in place to compensate the destroyed forest.
Atmospheric and Water pollution are a reality. Its consequences are felt on the health of the population.
In order to change the situation, the following points should be considered;
-continuous sensitization of the communities to reduce deforestation
Put in place projects for tree planting
Go in search of funding

Recommendations
-World pulse should facilitate environmental structures at the Redd+
World pulse should help organizations to get carbon credits funding
Women should be considered in resources management in order to reach their self assertiveness

le rechauffement climatique

Bonjour maman Madeleine

Yes, lets go green!

Dear Madeleine,
Thank you very much for highlighting the climatic issues of Congo. Recent years, drastic climatic changes are alarming. The temperature fluctuation, rainfall alterations and corresponding problems are scary. Worldwide, steps are being taken but yes while thinking globally, we need to act locally.

Along with policy changes, each of us, as a responsible citizen, need to take steps to protect our environment, our air and our water. Education also plays a great role and yes, women play a great role too. Since mostly women take care of the house hold affairs, we need to reduce the waste, to find innovative ways of recycling stuffs, we need to teach our children and our neighbors as small steps to protect our environment. e.g a small step, which I try to inculcate is by using a cotton bag while I go for shopping to minimize consumption of plastic bags, carrying our own plates for our get together with friends to minimize use of disposable plates etc.

It is great if 'going green' slogan is incorporated by making policy changes by Govt. of Congo, to enforce greener approach. Also educated people should get together, organize and plan events to create awareness and educate community members for a safe, green and healthy environment. I think there is no harm in incorporating these approach in the syllabus of school in the form of short stories, so that children learn from a young age. It will also encourage children or community people if the teacher or community head announces some small prize for a certain environmentally friendly activity.
Yes, we need to protect our environment and contribute towards making it safe for us.
Best wishes and regards
Nusrat
